I had breakfast there, for the first time last Saturday. This place offered a very nice environment. For the homeless to have the first meal do the day. The lady working as a volunteer. Was happy to help out, but sad that its needed so much more and more everyday.
I am new to St. Stephens. The church as been open for over a century. Today it comprises a gentle congregation of people from diverse backgrounds, who are friendly, but not overwhelmingly so. One of their missions is to help those in need. On the last Thursday of each month the sanctuary is opened to about 350 souls who receive food, through a Basket program. It is organized around the Oregon Food Bank and the church's outreach program. Recipients and church members are encouraged to volunteer. Also more programs. The Episcopalian services at St. Stephens are reverent and heartfelt and I love them. And their classical choir is wonderful. Sings Sunday, 10:30 am. I would recommend this downtown church to anyone.
I will have to be honest. I went there to volunteer for service work to see how it felt being on the other side of the road because not to long ago I myself was to in need of some help from the day to day struggle with homeless ness. The program nightwatch really helps and lifts up with a wonderful program coordinator . Her name is Zubaida Ula... I give her praise and thanks..
St. Stephen's Episcopal Parish is an amazing place that provides food, clothing, love, respect and help to those in need. They are truly angels in Portland Oregon amazing caring organization with many volunteers. This is a place where young and old, poor and rich can go for companionship and love!
St. Stephan's has always been helpful to me whenever I have been in need. The breakfast on Saturday morning is worth my trip from Hollywood district and the people I have worked with are always pleasant even under trying conditions.
It's a beautiful place
The best church I know of in southwest Portland, the level of community service and involvement is unparalleled.
Great breakfast Saturdays. Opens @ 7:30a
for a church you would think they would be honest people..but they are not.
