I never had the best ER or urgent care experience. It was always a complete waste of time and waiting for hours to even get checked for an “emergency” but this place really changes my experience and expectations. Doctor Lee William and the nurses were extremely friendly and helpful. The medication the doctor prescribed me were spot on and started to feel a difference after a week of struggling. Highly recommend this place. Specially as a tourist who is clueless it feels good to be in safe hands. Thank you!
Doctors from Straub Medical Center recently performed my heart bypass surgery. The downside, is that the facilities could use an update, but the upside is their conscientious and considerate staff. My surgeons did an outstanding job, and the nursing staff, aides, and other hospital employees treat their patients like humans. I’ve had numerous surgeries, and think that Straub was outstanding.
My wife was admitted after a brief ER visit for cholithiasis, aka gallstones. Within a few brief hours, she was treated by physicians and returned to her room completely satisfied and pain-free. The nurses and staff were compassionate and professional making the entire experience gratifying.
My dad had a fall. I took him to Straub emergency, they checked him in instantly. Luckily, it was "just" a broken nose and bruises, so for an 89 year old this is relatively good news. Dr. Watanabe and her team were absolutely amazing, both in professionalism and empathy. This is not the first time we had an incredible experience with Straub. Ten years ago my dad broke his hip, and Dr. Nakasone did a hip replacement. The X-ray showed a perfect job. In both instances, the nursing and support staff has been flawless, from admission to discharge. So the hospital management deserves recognition for hiring and managing their operation so well. THANK YOU!
DO NOT take anyone you love here. They will die due to the staffs inability to listen and test ones that have simple dual issues. They kept treating my mom for dehydration when her side/ tummy hurt went the 3 times. Finally demanded they do ultrasound. My mom died the next day of liver cancer and cerrosis of liver due to hepatitis B, which born with. Looking at records WHY would this happen. This hospital doesn’t care . The ER Dr yelled your mothers dying. We chose not to tell her,he didn’t care, or consider her fear. Please don’t let them kill your family members
NURSE TOLD US WE SHOULD BE LUCKY THEY ARENT MAKING US SIT ON THE HALLWAY FLOOR. Came into Straub ER with my 18y/o friend. She was in psychosis. She was suicidal, emotionally distraught, and having visual and auditory hallucinations. We came in during AM shift. AM nurses were very kind. Offered both of us warm blankets, and offered patient a pillow. Then shift change happened. PM nurse came in and was taking the patient’s mental condition personally. The patient was obviously upset, scared, and did not have enough of a grip on reality in that mental state to tell if the staff was helping her or hurting her. She was not combative nor aggressive even in this state of mind. Nonetheless, the PM nurse in charge of the patient was taking the patients irritability and lack of awareness of reality personally. The patient had not slept in the past 72hrs. When the patient finally was trying to get some rest, I asked the PM nurse for a pillow. She said no which I understand because it could be a liability risk. I then asked if she could just get her hospital bed at a flatter angle so she could try to sleep. The nurse begrudgingly came in to move the bed and complained to the patient about it being the third time she had to move the bed. When I asked the nurse to not speak to her that way because of her already emotionally distraught state, she began to argue back with me. The head nurse that was in the area then proceeded to tell me and the patient that we should be lucky we weren’t on the floor in the hallway. She said this wasn’t a hotel room and that we were making unreasonable requests all day. The requests we had made over the duration of her stay were for a blanket, a pillow, bed adjustment, and using the restroom. Very reasonable requests that were graciously fulfilled by the AM staff. To hold a grudge for meeting the bare minimum of nursing care bewilders me. This girl was suicidal and afraid of the visual hallucinations she was having. To speak to someone in that state of mind and tell them she should be grateful for not being out on the floor of the hallway disgusts me. People come to the hospital because they need help. I understand being a nurse can be exhausting, my own mother has been a nurse my entire life. I truly do get that it is a tiresome and often underpaid job. That being said, that does not give anyone the right to treat someone, especially an actively struggling patient in that manner and threaten to take away their own bed. Truly horrific behavior for a medical professional.
These people saved my life! I went in to pali momi for headaches and I had an obstruction of my csf in my brain. Transferred here for excellent care with dr. Carli bullis and her team and I am recovering so well already. The nurses here have been so kind and amazing; for a traumatic experience I could not have had a better medical team. Feeling especially grateful today for these fine medical heroes. Thank you so much for my care and fixing me so I can go on to live a long healthy life. - Dr. Angelica Breuker DVM
Want to give a shout out to Rachel at the Straub Vascular Clinic Palma Bldg for being exceptionally professional, efficient and friendly. The guy sorry didn't get his name at check-in was also a breath of fresh air. So cheerful. Mahalo!
Both my doctor's are here at the hospital, so I come here often. The staff is great, my doctor's are great I wouldn't change medical providers unless something drastic had to happen, I'd hate to lose access to these great doctors. It sucks having to drive to town to see my specialty doctors but it's made up to me 1000 times. I can get long winded at times and my doctor's always take the time to listen,I never feel rushed or put aside to cram in the next patient. I rarely have had to wait more then a few mins past my apt time if at all. The King St facility has everything you need if you live close by, if you're a straub member there are facilities all over the island. Parking is responsible and I always find a spot.
Part 1 12/09/2022 started off pleasant as can be expected when you check in. While reading the paperwork that was prefilled out for me, the receptionist in the emergency room told me to “just sign and initial here, here and here. “ She then repeated herself in a different tone where i replied “yes, i heard you… i would like to read this before i sign and waivers or acknowledgments. She replies,” the acknowledgment is to let you know that we gave you the PRIVACY PRACTICES informing you of your rights and responsibilities.” i then ask her if i can read that and she said,” i will give you a copy after you initial.” my response,” how do you expect me to sign the acknowledge portion stating that i was given a copy of and fully understand something when i dont understand?” she then rolls her eyes and throws this 4-5 page booklet towards me and says ”fine! “ as if i am bothering her or in the wrong. Read #6 of you want, plenty more coming..
