Before they expanded it was always crowded Long waiting in lines, terrible. Great fresh produce, sea food, nice selection of rice. Also Check their MEATS, I've seen bad rotten meat. You'll see beggars out on the parking. Becareful of your surroundings in that area. FYI! Since the store expanded their goat meat also went up! Other than that there's a lot of nice house wares and house stuff.
The old Sun Foods was across the street in a much smaller building. So this store definitely smells like a southeast Asian market prefer Japanese or Korean tbh and they have a huge variety of SE Asian style vegetables, seafood n meats ok, animal parts. See my pics. Maybe too many items to keep track of, which may cause the general smell. They should get a HVAC tech in there to check the ventilation too. Anyway, employees may appear like cute young ladies but didn’t seem particularly friendly or knowledgeable. Regarding safety - may not want to navigate the parking lot alone, after dark.
It’s a bit smelly in the store, but they carry a huge variety of food items and other items as needed. The sun food in Brooklyn Park is definitely a lot bigger but for a central location this one is not too bad either. We at able to get lots of Asian vegetables that we were looking for. They specially carry the sweet tamarind which is absolutely delish as a snack and super healthy as well. It reminds me of home every time I get that box.
Very poor customer service, My elderly parents shopped there on 01/25/2023 and tried to contact them on 01/26/2023 morning about a misc charged item that I never bought of $49.99 overcharge. when tried to call and speak to a manager/supervisor, they refused to let me speak to a manager or supervisor, when asked for their manager/supervisor's name, they refused to give the name and stated they didn't know the names of their manager/supervisor or the owner and hung up on me. several attempts on call was made resulting in phone being hung up on me. make sure you watch when items are ringed up and review your receipt before leaving the store. will never go back to this store.
No good, stay away. The ginger I bought was soft and mushy. The dill looked like it had been partly frozen. And the ground beef was 100% brown and grey and not even slightly red like it should be. Shop at your own risk. You’ll have the trots for a week. Your toilet will thank me. Note the date of the meat. Today is 11/12/21.
An old friend of mine said recently that Sun Foods is the spot. It is! Good food, good prices and friendly staff! Buy a 5 dollar sandwich from their cold case from a local restaurant from nearby.
I am so glad that’s I went to Sun Foods in Saint Paul. Because in my opinion the veggies are so cheaper than Sun Foods in Brooklyn and Shuang Hur. And their fresh thai red peppers, pears yali, dills, rice paddy and meats are a lot cheaper than these supermarkets that’s I had mentioned. I gave 4 stars because I wished it’s has more varieties of Asian Shrimp chips and cheaper swat fishes too.
This is one of the Asian Store that I go to in this area, I love the varieties of fruits and vegetables! I had a very fresh rambutan in a very good deal today! So good!! Our one stop shop for cooked luncheon too! I love their papaya salad and they have a red rice, love it!
I see people slamming the meat for color etc. If I’m not mistaken, they grow their own animals and produce. Much of it. I’ve seen them butcher there before renovation. I believe that’s why the prices are so low. That means all the chemicals are not in the meat to preserve it and keep it pretty. You can tell when cooking it, it cooks fast because you’re not cooking all that stuff too. So meats will look brown. Some bloodier than usual. Chicken wings will have the little third piece on it. You can tell in the TASTE. It’s like meat and prices from the 80’s. They import too and have a huge variety of fish etc. I found buying other stuff like canned goods, Mayo etc is high priced so I just go for the meat and produce.
The prices really went up. It’s $8 for a bag of bean thread noodles, yet Walmart sells them for $3.50. $4 for rice paper , but only $1.90 at Walmart.
