Good and cheap bakery on East Broadway. There are a lot of cheap and delicious places on this street that not a lot of tourist know about. What I like about this place is that they have unique sweets that I haven't seen in other Chinese bakeries. This is the first time I've seen a sesame swiss roll. The sesame taste wasn't strong, but you can still taste it and the texture is there. It's not too sweet and really fluffy. They also have meat and rice dishes already packaged for $3.50.
Typical Cantonese style Bakery, it has the usual hotdog buns, pineapple buns, and egg tart. Nothing outstanding, but it is not bad either, great value. The draw is the next door rice roll store, which is part of this bakery, they share the kitchen.
My favorite bakery and a must stop anytime Im in Chinatown on the L.E.S . Far to many great items to choose one. Very friendly every time I enter, as a black woman I haven't always been greeted pleasantly but this business is great and I will always shop here.
Super affordable Cantonese bakery. Strong coffee, great coconut buns. Custard tarts never disappoint. Cash only.
Very cheap location with drinks and good quality bread; cash only but there’s nothing cheaper
Great bakery with affordable breads, desserts and drinks!
We have stayed in the area multiple times and for several weeks at a time. Our morning routine is always to get two large black coffees to go at the Happy Star and occasionally get a bakery item too. The service is very good, the coffee is superior to Star Bucks, is much cheaper, and is consistently flavorful, never burnt or the dregs of the pot. Their bakery makes a hotdog bun a bun baked with a hot dog in it! for $1.25, which makes a very tasty lunch. We highly recommend the place.
Extremely rude, the iced milk tea was so bland I was wondering if I was drinking milk or milk tea. Not the best bread and I found a piece of hair in my pineapple bun, was appalled. Never recommend coming here
I had there coconut bread and it was good when warmed up. The price is also really cheap! Good place to get sweet Chinese bread and pastry.
This review is for the kitchen half of the awning. They close at 4:30pm, but earlier is best if you want the full selection. This is essentially take out Dim Sum very tiny eating area. For the money, it's as good as any of the full-service Dim Sum halls. Instead of the hustle and bustle of the halls, you get to watch them prepare all of the bakery treats for next door. The tofu skin wrapped pork, fried dumplings and water chestnut cake are all done well--we get these every visit. I would skip the shrimp dishes maybe try the steamed shrimp dumplings if they aren't already packaged up on the counter. The rice plates are good values--make great next-day lunches. The bakery is OK, but there are better ones in the area.
