Komen Colorado has invested $42M in 100+ Colorado organizations for breast cancer screenings, diagnostics & treatment; plus $15.2 million for research.
Komen Colorado’s mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever. We do this by:
* Empowering people to make healthy decisions about their breast health by providing public education about breast health and breast cancer risk through our volunteer-based presence at health fairs and other community events and by awarding grants for community health workers and promotores de salud to provide culturally appropriate breast health education.
* Ensuring quality of care for all by investing 75% of net funds raised into our local communities through our Community Grants program, which pays for medical expenses for medically underserved Coloradans in need of breast cancer screening, diagnostics, and treatment care; and through our local public policy work to increase access to life-saving breast health care.
* Energizing science to find the cures by returning 25% of net funds raised to our national office to be aggregated with our sister affiliates’ revenues and awarded through the Susan G. Komen® national breast cancer research program.
As a non-endowed foundation, Komen Colorado’s ability to meet the ongoing need in our community is tied to annual revenues raised through our signature Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® in Denver, Pink Tie Affair, Snowshoe for the Cure® and other Affiliate events.
Since our founding in 1991 in Aspen, Komen Colorado has invested more than $42 million into 100+ Colorado-based non-profit health clinics, hospitals and community-based organizations to provide life-saving breast cancer care to those in need. Komen Colorado’s local investments have provided Coloradans with more than:
• 29,700 clinical breast exams;
• 47,500 mammograms;
• 19,300 diagnostic tests diagnosing 540 breast cancers; and
• 1,800 treatment services (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation).
In addition, the organization has raised nearly $15.2 million for ground-breaking research to understand risk factors for breast cancer, treatment protocols, how the disease metastasizes, and evidence-based interventions to increase survivorship.
Komen Colorado’s mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
Local community grants to offset costs of health care for medically underserved women and men who need clinical breast exams, mammograms, diagnostic tests, chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.
