When you suffer a work-related injury, it is critical that you report a claim to your employer as soon as possible. Your employer must offer medical treatment to you and you are not responsible for the costs of your medical care as long as you are treated by an "authorized" physician. If you cannot return to work right away, your employer's workers' compensation insurance carrier will also pay you a weekly income benefit based upon your average weekly wage at the time of your injury.
