Trying to make Friday night dinner easy and have a pleasant, ready-made meal with my wife, but Sushiman made things difficult. Doordash estimate was 30-40 minutes, but my confirmation receipt said 1 hour and 40 minutes. I wanted to confirm this wasn't a mistake so i tried to call them. After multiple tries, they didn't pickup. Living within a quarter mile, I walked to the restaurant to confirm the information was accurate, which it was. Not sure why they would advertise that pickup times were 30 minutes, when in reality, it was an hour longer. So, this rating isn't solely based this experience. I have had their food once before. It's a mediocre, middle-of-the- road restaurant. If your craving sushi, but desire a step up from 7-11, then this place will hit the spot at a reasonable price. But if the price I pay is this level of aggravation to purchase dinner, then I'm not going back. There are hundreds of great restaurants in Honolulu. This is not one of them. Even if their food was decent, they've demonstrated that they care little about my time. I will not go back.
The unagi was very unappetizing. Poorly cooked, bad flavor, lots of bones, blubbery skin. Don't bother coming here.Food: 1/5
Great lunch deals at the Makiki Sushi Man. I love sushi and I have to say the Makiki Sushi Man is on point. For the price you get some good sushi. They have $6.00 lunch bentos and a wide selection of good sushi. Even their spam musubis are good. A lot of free parking in the back and they serve Pepsi!...lol.
I had a plate lunch of $18 with a dynamite roll plus 2 salmon hand rolls. The dynamite roll only has a single shrimp tempura in the middle, and some spicy ahi tuna to top it off. The 2 hand rolls were made of very poor quality salmon, mostly end cuts that chef threw away from making other rolls. Overall, I paid $18 for a single tempura shrimp, some spicy ahi, junk fatty salmon pieces, rice and 3 pieces of nori. Very bad!
Got this to try a new place. Pretty disappointed to be honest, the quality of the fish is grainy and not good. Might as well go to Kozo Sushi. They're a little cheaper and have 2x better the quality.
Love their dynamite maki sushi! Hole in the wall place but great prices. Been to other newer sushi man, but their food isn't as good as this one.
Been going here for a few years now even through pandemic and never really had any issues until recently. I usually order the Spicey Ahi bowl and I noticed on a few occasions the cubed ahi had more fat than usual it’s a chewy white stuff but I didn’t say anything until today. I ordered as usual and asked the lady about if it’s normal to have so much fat on the fish cause it had on a few prior occasions, she went to the back to talk with owner and then came back out to cancel my order I asked why and all she said is the boss said to cancel it. I asked her to have him come out so I can talk to him and he came out all quietly and just kept telling them to cancel it so I asked him why??? and he said cause I complained. He’s very unprofessional and they over charge for the smallest things I don’t suggest anyone dine here but if you do, make sure not to ask questions cause he may just cancel your order.
Had shoyu ramen. Made to order. Great flavor and priced right.
Sushi is decent, good to grab a quick bite before doing or after weekend errands.. Wait is up to 25 mins, so its better to call in your order. There is no sit down service, so you have to stand around and wait.
Person taking orders at register cannot speak English well, no ac, VERY.slow. Tried to call in an order once, guy said they don't take phone orders. When I got there, they said my order would take over an hour. That's why I tried calling. Crab Maki is very good tho. Make sure you ASK for shoyu, chop sticks, and napkin, if need.
