My wife and I had an extraordinary unexpected encounter with the gracious, ambitious and articulate owner, Yen Tang; approaching closing time, she patiently allowed us to explore rings, stones and settings at the retail store and adjacent workshop. After more than two hours of mixing and matching stones and settings and getting to know one another, we decided on a setting to be modified to securely and elegantly accommodate a solitary tanzanite stone. Two weeks later it was delivered as scheduled and the finished product is gorgeous beyond description. BTW, the cost was below comparable rings at competing stores in this Philly district. The owner was amazing from initially walking in the front door, to follow up calls after my ring was received. She delivered on everything promised during purchasing. She let us take our time looking in the showroom, and wasn't pushy or demeaning. Best place to go on Jeweler's Row. We gave our budget and she exceeded our expectations. I am so happy we went here.

12 years ago, Michael saw me walking around jewelers row stopping into shops and looking for an engagement ring. He sat down with me and taught me everything I need to know about buying the perfect stone. Cut, Color, Clarity and Carats. He showed me how to properly use a sloop, GIA vs EGL, how not all of the 4C’s are the same, the Rapaport guide and everything in between. Then he told me to check in with the other shops on the street now that I knew what I was looking for and to come back when I was done. So I did. Better equipped and smarter about my search I now asked the right questions at each of these shops and was quoted thousands less compared to my first go round. I now knew what I was talking about. I got my best price and went back to Tang’s. Michael told me I did well and then finally started talking pricing with me. Not only did he teach me to be an informed shopper, he worked with me on the best deal possible and I knew it. For a kid in his twenties buying the most expensive thing I ever bought it was the best sales experience I’ve ever had. I’ve sent 4 of my friends here since then all with different budgets and have purchased all of my custom jewelry here since. Michael and his wife still remember me every time I walk in. I could not recommend them higher.

My husband and I are VERY unhappy with the service and quality we bought from Tangs Jewelers in Philadelphia. First of all before my husband purchased my wedding ring from Tangs, we did sell them a few older rings that were high quality platinum and diamonds, so they were well aware of what we were used to. One day before my husband who is an officer in the navy was going to be going out to sea again, we stopped in and they showed us some wedding ring bands. My husband mentioned that he had already found a beautiful platinum band on BLUE NILE where he purchased my engagement ring but that I his then Fiance had heard good about Tangs from an older friend & that I also wanted to have a relationship with a local jeweler etc. Meanwhile, I voiced while looking at the ring designs that she showed me, what I would like and the wife owner stated that she made a special design etc. and that theirs would be better than BLUE NILE. Just because my husband wanted to also have a local jeweler instead of going to internet and buy from a smaller business he decided with me to go with them. Some time after this visit, he went alone to get the ring made and purchase it. It turns out that after wearing the ring a while, the ring began to turn colors as I realized it was white gold 14K only, and white does but that it is NOT what we wanted at all. My husband was rushed when he went to town to get this ring made as he was on and off of sea duty in the navy and they totally took advantage of that while he was alone buying it. I was very unhappy that they gave him that 14k ring in the band and when he saw it turn he took out the receipt to show me and it is also lower clarity diamonds in addition to it being 14k which is NOT what we talked about. AND to compare, Blue Nile will give the same size rings with VS1 clarity and platinum for the same price. When we recently came into town for Thanksgiving after we were in VA a while, my husband decided he wanted to get me another ring from BLUE NILE and that he would take the loss and told me that even if he got half of what he paid them he would do it. When he went there to ask them what they would give him for it, they said NO, this was the wife-owner again. She said they cannot buy it back at any price and that if he wants to buy me a new one that they will make one and he can pay the difference to make a better one. BIG Mistake dealing with THEM. Remember they bought our old rings that we no longer used but this one was such low quality that they made, they could not offer us a price on it.
