Got the $25 Omakase and it was a ton of food. The most memorable dish was the roasted spice bone marrow served with a shot of sake so that you can use the bone as a luge afterwards.
Tanuki is just about the best Japanese joint in town. No, you're not getting sushi or something else for the suburban crowd out for a night of people watching the locals. You're getting an amazing multi-plate experience that if you have a good palate will knock your socks off. Take note of open times as they are almost never open... but if you can find them open, make the trip. You won't be disappointed
Ridiculously delicious and creative dishes! Roughly 20 dishes over a 2 hour period. We had an excellent Nigori Sake recommended by the owner... incredibly smooth Yamazaki whisky... the ambience is dark and rustic, like a Bodega or something lol. Jpunk music and mystical Japanese porn, quite the atmosphere! You order by selecting your price point, Something between 25 and 50 dollars per person to set the amount of courses and quality of dishes possibly. Don't expect to order anything in specific, as she treats the place like your a guest at her home... she's making dinner and you can have some or not lol! Definitely did not expect the quality of food I enjoyed there, truly one of my best restaurant experiences, I'll be back for sure!
A truly unique restaurant. I'm blown away by the creations and flavors here. A one-of-a-kind restaurant, even for Portland! Now serving brunch on the weekends, just sayin'
One of my favorite restaurants in PDX. Just follow the damn rules and don't have anyone join you after you've started your dining experience or they might stab you in the eyeballs.
One of the best restaurants in town, not good for groups but for 3 people or less its a really good time.
Great food, great Sake run by an owner that really cares about superior quality.
I love Tanuki.
Such a weird cool place totatly with the money. Don't trust the hours you will just have to check it out
What can I say? Portland is very lucky!!
