Tate House Museum

Fantastic local history site! We got a tour of the grounds and a history lesson about the home/neighborhood and Portland. Made our visit extra memorable.

In December, Tate House is decorated for 18th c Christmas. No formal tour but a docent in every room to explain modes of dress, games, cooking, spices, flip & wassail. Very lively celebration.

Great look at the past. The docents tell a great story. Hard to even imagine how life was when this country was born. Highly recommend this walking tour

Superb site of near original colonial period home. Must visit for 18th century historians and students. Return trip planned for next year.

Hidden Gem, learn about the British and the importance of Maine as a source of valuable masts for their navel ships.

Very informative tour, we really enjoyed learning about the owner and local history.

I wasn't at the museum, I was doing yard work for the crazy woman next door. I lasted three hours and then said, "See ya'!" I did make her pay me even though she didn't want to.

This is a great guided tour. Very interesting and informational. I would recommend it to anyone in the area.

Well worth your visit. The house is as it was in the 1700s, and the history of the mast trade is very well presented!
