Family, food, and community
The Brooklyn Tree is a reference to the novel “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” written by Betty Smith, which is set in East Williamsburg. The book is focused on a second generation immigrant family struggling to make ends meet in the early 1900’s. The importance of family, food and community is a clear theme throughout the story. A hundred years later, The Brooklyn Tree, owned and operated by the Marte family, second generation New Yorkers from the Dominican Republic, with the help of Chef Patrick Quinn, has opened its doors in the same neighborhood, rooted in the same ideals that got the Nolans through tough times in Brooklyn. Family, food, and community. Working with local and sustainable businesses, like produce from brooklyngrangefarm.com and composting with surewecan.org we aim to support and nourish our community, while providing delicious and nutritious comfort food at an affordable price.
