I seem to always forget this place exists. When it opened years ago on another part of town, it was a packed place for some time. This location is only easy to get to on bike or foot. The burgers are solid and always have a great flavor. Today I got the BBQ Burger and tots. The tots were a little mushy for my liking, but still tasted great. The Burger lacked the heat I was looking for, but it was still very satisfying. If you are downtown during breakfast or lunch, this is a consistent spot with a lot of tasty options. Enjoy!
I would not even give it a one star. Sorry I had to. Jackie always gets my order wrong every time. She gets my husband's correct everytime. I do not know why she treats me this way everytime. I am NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN. She does not care that I'm allergic to sausage. I ask for bacon every time and buts sausage unless some important higher up is there. Then she gets it right. One time I even had raw meet because of her. I hate raw meat and she knows it. And she never even gave him the receipt either. She just wants me to get sick.
My ultimate chicken sandwich was BUSTING, for real. Absolutely delicious. The fries are a little lackluster, but I got the side salad lettuce, tomato, lots of fried onion and was happy with it. The interior is insanely well done. Cute stop downtown after the Memorial Museum.
We were in town for the Van Gogh exhibition and had planned to go to Nick's Grill, but they were unexpectedly closed. So, we "stumbled" upon The Cow Calf-Hay. We're glad we did! We had the Mad Cow, Maui Cowi, and the Taco Burgers. We chose reg fries, sweet potato fries, and onion rings as our sides. All 3 burgers were delicious, but the Taco completely won the day! It deserves a permanent place on the printed menu. The sides were good, but I thought the onion rings were too corn-mealy. They tasted fine; it was a texture thing for me. It was a standard downtown diner atmosphere, with a nice view of surrounding buildings. It was clean, which is paramount, and the service was friendly. All in all, it is a good find in the heart of the city. However, the Taco burger alone will bring us back!
I usually have a good experience at Cow Calf-Hay for lunch; however, I tried them for breakfast this morning and my breakfast tacos were disgusting. They did not scramble the eggs. They fried the egg then chopped it up. It was awful. I only like my eggs scrambled and very dry. Maybe that is how they make them but Ive never seen a breakfast taco made with cut up fried egg. Yuck!!
I only had the salad with fried chicken, not sure how the hamburgers are, they look delicious. But the salad was not worth the $. The ranch dressing was good but the chicken was almost inedible. Very dry and tough. Would not order it again
I visited the area on a Saturday when they were closed but have eaten there in the past. A nice little place near the library where I like to grab a snack.
If you want the best down and dirty, pure meat and cheese burger in OKC, come to this place! I ordered the Triple Lucy, which is three 3 oz patties, 3 slices of cheese, and pickles! The burger meat here is amazing! I would say, probably in the Top 5 burgers in my life! Onion rings are crispy and wonderful. They have many more burgers, such as the Oklahoma original onion burger and a Lucy in any size from a single to quadruple! Chicken strips weren’t bad either for the nephew. Check it out peeps!! Two Thumbs Up and a happy belly!!!
Horrible service. I explained in detail what burger I wanted. They changed me for it, but gave me the smaller pattie. I spoke to them about it, and was told that I have to pay again, then they'll fix their mistake. The place it dirty, over priced, and Horrible customer service. If you want your money taken, and rude Horrible service, then go there. But remember, you were warned.
Used to be really good. Now the food is often overcooked and dried out. It seems like employees just don't care. At $15 a burger it is very very NOT a good deal. Wish I'd kept my money! Won't be going back again
