This was one of the coolest experiences ever. I couldn't believe how much fun we had on the Secret Door self-tour for the price of the tickets. We stayed for hours but I honestly feel like you could be there for days and still not discover everything. Each room is so unique, full of a thousand fascinating objects, decorations, and pieces of furniture ... even before you find a secret door! It really feels like Narnia or something. I would say this is a can't miss if you're ever in DC. You can learn so much, too, and the staff is great! We came in the morning and were the only ones there, and it was so cool having the run of the place. By the time we left there were a lot of other people but I'd definitely recommend coming in the morning if you can. I heard you can stay as a guest too which is definitely on my bucket list.
My son and I visited the O Street Museum for the Secret Door Experience. He is fascinated with hidden doors and secret rooms. While there are over 80 to be found, if you find more than two or three, you are above average. We managed to find 14! I enjoyed the rich history of the property including learning about the hero in residence program, which hosted Rosa Parks for over 10 years. Many of the bedrooms can be rented out as part of the inn. Just about everything you see is for sale. There's so much to look at. We enjoyed the guitars that were signed by famous singers and musicians. We went during the week, bought tickets ahead of time, and we had practically the whole place to ourselves. Staff was friendly and and informative. You could go back again and again and see different things each time!
Such a cool place to visit while in D.C. There is no shortage of surprises in store and with everything available to purchase, it is a vintage collectors delight. Absolutely cannot wait to go back and find more hidden doors. I easily could have spent my entire day looking through every room. Be courteous and keep the hidden doors secret! Leave the magic. I only found 7 doors, including the wine cellar and every door brought a great deal of elation.
Better than I expected. A friend and myself went for the hidden doors we heard about. Had no idea how much history this place has. We both had a great time looking for hidden doors throughout the mansion, we found 6 but there are 100s we were told, so its a challenge. We did the hidden gems search also and that was pretty challenging too but we found half the list. This is a great place for people of all ages. They have so much stuff from athletes, musicians, political figures and more. They have a bar and area with snacks for purchase as well and everything you see through the whole place is for sale. If you bring kids here, I'd keep them close because if they break anything you'll have to buy it and chances are it won't be cheap. This is a spot you probably have to see more than once because there is so much to look at. I'd definitely visit again.
Staff was helpful and friendly. The bathrooms were the best part! There is definitely a lot to look at and finding the secret doors is so exciting!! I actually liked the installations and original architecture more than the random stuff everywhere. Still fun!
We had a great time exploring this place. And we ended up finding 20 secret doors! There’s a room with secret staircase connecting different floor levels. It was definitely our favorite. When you visit, be sure to not miss it!
Such a cool and unique place. I don't believe I saw all the rooms that were available because it is just so confusing in there. You will find some hidden doors but you will never find the amount that there are claim to be it's just too hard plus with trying to see everything you kind of forget to look for those. The admission might seem pricey but you will eventually forget about it and immerse yourself in in the sights and sounds of the place.
When in DC, y’all should make the time to search for the secret doors at the Mansion on O Street! It’s great fun! Rainy day or not, be sure to visit! The history is cool; Rosa Park lived there for years! There’s a John Lennon room & a log cabin room. You can actually stay there too. The events look like great fun; meetings, retreats, weddings and New Year’s Eve parties… Parking can be a bit tricky so it’s best to take a metro to Dupont Circle and walk from there.
I went with my boyfriend to the secret door experience, it was a lot of fun! We did the secret door experience and had a blast! The only thing I would caution people on is there are definitely some racist figurines and stereotypical art, there are black figurines with the big red lips that date back from the Jim Crow era, maybe even as far back as slavery, that were originally created to stereotype and mock black people. There’s also a big statue of an Asian man that rubbed me the wrong way. But the rest of the experience was amazing, and I recommend reading into the history behind the building, it’s fascinating stuff.
Held a corporate event here - couldn't be happier! The Mansion and staff were easy to work with, great communication and service. The food received rave reviews from our attendees. Such a great venue and experience!Service: 5/5
