The Riggsby

About

Chef Michael Schlow's swanky neighborhood gem serving up classic cocktails and modern Continental fare. Located in the Kimpton Carlyle Hotel Dupont Circle.

Story

Award-winning chef Michael Schlow, who owns and operates the popular TICO restaurant on DC’s 14th Street corridor, opened his second DC area restaurant in 2015: The Riggsby, in the Carlyle Hotel at 1731 New Hampshire Avenue, NW in the Dupont Circle neighborhood.

Named for the street that intersects the restaurant, Riggs Place, the restaurant’s name also pays homage to the former Riggs Bank. The intimate yet refined space was designed by Brian Miller of Edit Lab at Streetsense, and will feature an open kitchen, wood tables, leather booths, brass finishes and whimsical décor, that includes a custom
designed wallpaper incorporating original artwork from Schlow’s wife, mixed media artist,

The eclectic bar and lounge area will seat 40 guests, while the dining room seats 75 and also has a cozy private dining space for ten. The Riggsby will have a fun yet sophisticated ambience, serving American dishes with European influences.

The inviting bar will have an emphasis on classic, hand crafted cocktails, bar snacks, and an extensive wine by the glass program.

Schlow, considered one of the leading culinary professionals in the United States, has tapped Chef Philippe Reininger, an acolyte of Jean-Georges Vongerichten who was most recently executive chef at J&G Steakhouse in Washington DC, to oversee the kitchen; and Daniel Lobsenz, who most recently oversaw front of house operations and managed the wine programs for both Roofer’s Union and BLT Steak, will be The Riggsby General Manager.

The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. Final food and beverage menus, along with operating hours, reservations, and other information will be made available closer to opening.

I went here for my birthday just a few days ago. The service was impeccable! We tried the lamb meatballs & charred cabbage; they did not disappoint. My friend ordered the ribeye which she said was good and I ordered the short rib which was good also. For dessert, we both shared the apple strudel. Delicious! The ambience was perfect! only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was due to the fact that the food was not hot. The temperature felt as if perhaps it sat for a little while.
Lyle’s Restaurant was a lovely place to have dinner in the DC area. It is part of the Lyle Hotel. We ordered the Smoked Duck Croquettes and Loaded Hassleback Potatoes to start and they were amazing! My entree of choice was the Short Rib. It was cooked excellent and really melted in your mouth. The corn puree was a great addition to the dish and the fried cabbage had a nice crunch to it. Ambience was amazing, very upscale and impressive. The staff were also excellent and knowledgeable. Absolutely pay this place a visit if you are ever in the DC area!
Lyle’s DC completely exceeded my expectations and more. The ambiance and the service was great, friendly staff who took care of you the moment you walked in. They are taking the right precautions for COVID , so prepared to show your vaccine card. Now, the food was phenomenal too! Tasty and savory in every bite. Will be coming back! P.S. don’t forget to order a side of fries
The ambiance is very nice. Although, I wished they increased the lighting a little more. The appetizers were definitely a 5 out of 5 especially the burrata salad. The burger was just OK though. I thought the party was just too thick. Maybe, it would have been better as two thin patties. The fries were always over salted.
Exquisite, across the board. The food was so mouthwatering-ly delicious... Grits that make you second guess if you ordered breakfast food or a slice of heaven. Hidden gem: the smoothies! And the decor is a great surprise, with comfy seating, well positioned arrangements, and a sky roof that gives feelings of exclusivity and warmth.
Very nice restaurant in Washington in a quiet location The staff is fantastic! Special thanks to Diego, the restaurant manager. Food and wine is delicious. We had an event a few days later that was beautifully done too! Thanks to Martha and Sloane!
I had an outstanding experience at Lyle’s. The ambiance is really nice, great spot for a special occasion or to get cute for. We had the smoked duck croquettes, lamb meatballs, fried chicken, short rib, and the chocolate s’mores. Everything was on point! Our host, Akeil, and our server, Isaac, also provided excellent service and were very attentive and hospitable. Can’t wait to go back!
I went to Lyle's for the first time for brunch for my birthday this Sunday. It was such a vibe! Everything from the ambiance down to the food and service was amazing. Our server was courteous, professional and kept the bottomless mimosas coming. I had the fried chicken and waffle. The chicken was seasoned well and overall was delicious. There was also a DJ who did her thing playing classic hip-hop and R&B songs from mostly the 90s and 2000s. Again, it was such a vibe and a great way to celebrate! I would definitely return for another brunch on a weekend!
I had the the pan seared branzino. It was so good I even ate the skin it was crispy. The red tomato sauce and capers paired well with the flaky white fish. The perfect salty and savory! 10 out of 10 recommend.
Excellent experience. We booked this for the night of our small wedding as a special getaway for us. The staff made the experience unforgettable. The hotel is clean and gorgeous. The staff were all happy and kind. The food and drinks at the bar and restaurant were incredible. We will definitely be back and will recommend it to all our friends. Thank you to Maria, the front desk manager, and Martha especially for being wonderful.
