I love to walk my dog over here at night to see these beautiful statues. It’s everyday art integrated into life. When lit up at night they are also just the right amount of light to come sit at and have a leisurely conversation. Sometimes I’ll come sit at a bench over here and also just eat lunch or think when I want to get out of the house.
The hill up to this statue is a very nice workout ! I usually go up the hill and then hop on the Rosemont Pedestrian bridge that leads to the other side of memorial avenue.
Tolerance statues represent the Earth’s seven continents. It reflects Houston’s unity and diversity. Amazing.
The Tolerance or Plensa Statues is a collection of public art right off of Montrose Boulevard and Buffalo Bayou. The installation were designed by artist Jaume Plensa. He described his inspiration for this project as being the ability to live in harmony, in peace--hence the name. My favorite time to visit is at dusk or after dark, as the hollow statues light up from within. I highly recommend visiting, no good Houstonian should just pass by without ever stopping.
ugh why cant they put somethint good up theres so many good artist and they put up this microsoft publisher junkget a real sculptors not somebody relative
Seven statues in the shape of meditating human bodies that are made up of a variety of written characters symbolizing tolerance and world unity. They are lit at night from below which gives them an even more peaceful aura and they have been placed at one of the busiest parts of the Buffalo Bayou Park trials for maximum exposure.
Tolerance is an awesome art installation in Buffalo Bayou Park. You can tell that the artist put a lot of work into this thought-provoking piece. Also a great spot for a late-night walk.
Great place to walk around. The alphabet men are awesome to look at, especially at night. Fun fact: Part of Mac Miller’s -Avian music video was filmed here. Check it out! RIP Mac
Wonderfully made to expose self-reflection; beautiful when viewed at night.
Tolerance is an outdoor 2011 silvery aluminum sculpture by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, installed along Buffalo Bayou. It consists of seven separate wire frame human figures on granite pedestals. Seven human figures represent seven continents. Their framework consists of alphabetic symbols from languages around the world, reflecting the artist’s belief that, whatever culture we live in and whichever language we think in, our lives are similar. At night, the sculptures are lit from within. It coincides with the construction of the Rosemont Bridge, which offers pedestrians and bicyclists a way to cross Buffalo Bayou without entering automobile traffic on Montrose. It’s a must watch for a sculpture lover.
