Made a trek via public transportation from out near airport to visit this art installation. if you know Houston- that’s a feat! …it was completely worth it. Arrived shortly before dusk. Nice intro from art student/volunteer docent. Not too crowded; plenty of available seating on top and below. Pictures cannot do it justice. It was beautiful to watch & tranquil to enjoy. Very cool experience for sure.
A very meditative experience if it were not for all the 50 or so tourists. It gives a very peaceful and reflective ambiance and I was so impressed and amazed walking through Rice to witness this kind of natural-yet-electronic sculpture/pavillion. The lights are much prettier when you view from the outside or sitting in the lower level of the structure, not the top.
I love this space on the Rice Campus. There was a decent sized crowd on this pleasant evening. Why a 4? First, there was a crane parked on the lower level, taking up space and diminishing the experience. Second, there wasn't much of a light show this evening changing colors, which is odd given it was free museum Thursday and I suspect it's a nice way to cap the evening. Of course I will return and bring out-of-town guests.
The light show. It was magical. It was majestic. It was magnificent. Contrast the artificial lighting vs natural lighting. The light show was mesmerizing. As I stared at the darkness outside and the light inside, they became one.
It’s magical if you don’t know how it works and believe in the hypnotics light changes during natural sunset and sunrise. Turns out it’s lit by 256 LEDs with very smooth artificial light transition. So this show really can be played anytime with light contrasts but less effective through the aperture open sky hole of course. I guess this is the type of disappointment you get as a kid grows older finding out Santa Clause is not real. Still worth a visit to observe the sublime color changes and pay the $1/10 min parking. Bonus: super romantic for couples to sit on the benches upstairs or picnic on the grass.
Stumbled across this when we were staying in the area. We were there for sunset, light sequence was awesome against the clouds and lightning in the background!! There were several people there enjoying the quiet and meditating. Parking available along the street. It’s quick and easy to stop in and stay for a short visit. If you go to the website that’s shown when you are reviewing this location on the map it will show the best times to arrive for your visit!!
Beautiful! Bring headphones and listen to something you like to hear. People don't know how to behave. They talk and cough and are just rude. This art installation is worth seeing.
Diner en Blanc Houston Texas, Secret Location James Turrell's Location IN 2022. It was a perfect night, for a perfect event. The live bands, the violinist was fantastic, the dancers were magical, the people were exquisite, the food was enjoyable and EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING was PERFECT. What a GREAT Time, around like minded people.
Amazing art structure, the parking was easy there's only one that I saw underground there isn't anything else there, only the structure itself. Pretty cool tho!!
It's a really mesmerizing sight, especially in the rain. Nice place to just relax and watch some lights. Sometimes they have concerts, I hear, so that's pretty cool. They only have the lights on for about 30 minutes during sunset I believe, so just take some time out of your day to just sit and breathe, meditate maybe, with a very fancy ceiling. I saw a rly cute couple just sit and watch the lights change in the light rain, looking up while leaning their heads together... If you like people watching and lights, go here. It's so nice. It's also on the Rice campus so I'd definitely recommend just visiting, it's really pretty and has nice people.
