Tudor Fieldhouse

Story

Tudor Fieldhouse is multi-purpose arena in Houston, Texas. Previously known as Rice Gymnasium, it was renamed in honor of Rice alum Bobby Tudor, who spearheaded the renovation of the facility with a multimillion-dollar donation. The court is designated "Autry Court" in memory of Mrs. James L. Autry. Her husband James Lockhart Autry was a descendant of Micajah Autry, who was a hero of the Battle of the Alamo. Her daughter, Mrs. Edward W. Kelley, made a generous donation to the gymnasium building fund in honor of her late mother, an ardent supporter of Rice. The arena opened in 1950. It is home to the Rice University Owls men's and women's basketball, and volleyball teams.HistoryThe facility was constructed in 1950. An air conditioning system was added in 1991. Other renovations include a new ceiling, new lighting, and a new scoreboard. The facility currently seats 5,000 people.Autry Court is also home of the notorious Autry Army, a group of students who attend every basketball game and heckle opponents. They have recently been referred to as the "Blue Army of Death" by former University of Memphis men's head basketball coach John Calipari. The blue curtain on one side of the court is called a "distraction" by many colleges. At the end of the game, young fans are invited onto the court to shoot a free throw. If they make it, they win a basketball. On February 7, 2007, a $23 million renovation of Autry Court was announced by Rice University. The renovations are to be completed in time for the 2008-09 basketball season. In the interim, Rice played its home games at Merrell Center in Katy, TX (5 games), Reliant Arena (8 games) and Toyota Center (1 game) in Houston.

Diner en Blanc at Rice University; The Tudor Fieldhouse. What a pleasure to be invited to such a magnificent event. This was our first time attending. The entertainment was fabulous, the people were beautiful the ambiance of the moon lit park. All so beautiful.
Beautiful place, very clean and easy to navigate. I went for a graduation and the time was wonderful.
I great complex at The Harvard of The South. Our Girls program came in and won a State Title.
Nice place, ample parking for a basketball game. I just wonder why there is such a large area in the gym that has no possible way to see the scoreboard.
Excellent arena to watch sports. But they keep it real cold so bring warm clothing.
I was here watching my two sons for Summer Team Basketball. I have to say, I was impressed how things ran so smoothly. Parking was $5 and the attendants were not always kind or well informed of how much parking was left in the lot but for the most part it was a good experience!! They did offer concessions which also included pizza and Chick-fil-A which’s which was super convenient for our players when we could not get off campus to get something to eat!! The tournament was organized the refs were really good. There was no entry fee which was nice. Usually you have to pay $30 for a weekend pass to watch your kids play basketball in a tournament. They basically had four gyms open in this building. Yep of the gyms did have very limited seating but still all the parents made do. Great Tournament and Good facilities!!
Awesome area you can have an amazing view and much more!
I love the place Choir class of my daughter were invited to sing the national anthem. Very kind people thank you
Had the pleasure of meeting Rice’s president at this spacious venue on campus
We attended a fundraiser basketball game at Tudor Field House. Parking was a long walk from the door, and the condition of the seats 110 section was a constant distraction: whenever anyone in our row moved, ALL of us felt it...like watching a game while seated on a waterbed.
