Turbeville Correctional Institute

If i could give 1/2 star i would. This has got to be the worst institution within the SCDC organization. The general population inmates are locked down 20 hrs per day with no disciplinary. I have called the warden and the state director to complain about the conditions but all they say is they are short-staffed. The warden chooses NOT to follow the rules set-down by SCDC policy. I have on 2 different occasions driven the 3 hrs to Turbeville to visit my son, waited for the visits to begin, then the LT comes outside to tell us the visits have been cancelled. This was AFTER calling the day before and the morning of the visit to check the status of visits. The families visiting are treated just as bad as the inmates with attitude and disrespect from the staff. My son has lost 27 lbs from just being there for the last 8 months ... the food is that bad and no nutritional value. All starches and gravy and green mystery meat. It is the WORST institution in SC.

Very concerned with the way they are handling the care of the inmates at this institution. They have been on lock down for over 90 days and are having riots. Maybe they need to get a capable staff in place to guarantee safety. If the people that are there can not handle their jobs in a humane way they need to allow someone to step in that can and will.

My son has been in prison for 7 years now... When then scdc treats their inmates like a animals. Then they will be vicious like animals. Every employee should treat the inmates as they would want to be treated if they were there. We need to pray for our scdc inmates because it seems like they are sweeping alot of things " under the rug".
