The owner has always been so helpful every time I come in. Lots of gorgeous fabrics imported that you can’t find in other places in Houston. The silk and wool options are huge! A great gem!
Great place to shop for fabric and accessories! Best button collection in Houston. I have been shopping here since 2000. I the owner is always here and she is very helpful. The parking on front is free, not like most of the rice village. Highly recommend for quality fabrics and accessories.
I love this place. I'm a local fashion designer and this is one of my go-to spots for quality, specialty fabric and supplies. It may seem like a small storefront, but don't be fooled-- Twi has a huge selection of fabrics to choose from and is always very welcoming when I come into the store. Whether I'm shopping for a specific project or just browsing for fun, I always love having an excuse to visit Universal.
Honestly overpriced compared to other stores in town. Poorly labeled merchandise, piled haphazardly and limited selections. While you could find some unique things here it was all drastically overpriced. I was disappointed. I'll only go back if I need vintage buttons or aged tie dye velvet ribbons.
I really loved my experience here! Everyone was so helpful. I found the perfect knitted fabric for my next collection. It’s hard to find genuine and good fabric stores in Houston, so I am happy that I found Universal.
Found this place on a whim! After striking out at 2 other fabric stores in Houston for a very specific shade needed for a bridesmaid dress, I found it here. A bit chaotic at first sight, but I found what I needed within 5-10mins of being there, so if you know what you're looking for you can find it. The ladies working were helpful with conversion of the bolt widths to make sure I got enough which was appreciated because I trekked in from Austin for this hunt!
I love this store! They have a huge selection of fabric, trims, buttons and more, plus staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Conveniently the One-stop-shop for ANY sewing project.
Best ribbon selection I’ve found in Houston. Gorgeous, upscale silks, velvet, etc. with convenient parking!
My mother used to have a dressmaking business and would send people to this store regularly. However many of her customers came back talking of a terrible experience with the owner. This was years ago. And today my mother and I decided to try the store again hoping that the owner was nicer. She was not and basically barked an answer to a simple question about her linen selection. This was my first time in the store. And although I was wearing a mask I was struck by the bad smell in there. Musty and kinda smelly. Also the fabric is so badly organized.all stacked in haphazard piles and barely enough room to walk between the rows. I'm used to stores smelling like that fresh new fabric smell and growing up going into fabric store very often that was what I was expecting. I will never go back to this fabric store. Even the lighting was so bad I found it hard to tell the true colors of the fabrics. 10 out of 10 would not recommend.
Although this place has a lot of different fabrics. When asking the owner that to match a color she was extremely rude, and quick to turn me and my sister away from her store. After I just heard her working with another woman that she was very pleasant with, I expected the same respect. I was extremely excited to come to this store and the owner left a bad taste in my mouth with the way she talked to me and my sister. There was no kindness shown.
