Upper Macatawa Natural Area

Awesome paved trail for walking or running (about 2 miles long, but it continues past the park on both sides). Nice hills and grassy areas as well as wooded areas. Several really cool views.

I love coming here for a great walk, hike or run. Bring the kids along, lots of things to discover and enjoy. Mountain biking is available here but check the Facebook page first under Upper Macatawa Park before leaving home to make sure that they're open. Clay based so if there is much water it just might be closed. But trail difficulties barrier l vary here so be aware of where you are and ride within your abilities. Trail direction is posted along with rules at the park. Parents please monitor which trail your kids are riding on, so areas are very technical and are not meant for beginners. Additionally, even if the mountain bike trails are closed to riders, hikers are allowed but it isn't advised to home the trails when they're open.

Though I've lived in the area for 10 years this was my first visit to this particular park. Everything seemed clean and the trails well maintained. Unpaved paths were muddy after a 3 day deluge, but thats to be expected. As for mountain biking, I'd say the trails were good and VERY well maintained, but you have to bike past a dairy farm, and the waste storage tank presents a rather unpleasant odor. I grew up in the country, so I'm used to the smell of cow poo, but it's different when it's been stored. Aside from that, it's a nice place for some jogging or a walk, and the river is pretty.

Challenging trails for biking and running. Please be courteous and aware while on the trails for everyones' safety. Observe the traffic direction by the designated day. Separate paved path available too for walking, running, biking, etc. Good views at look-out. Pit toilets available at 84th Ave parking lot. Trails can be closed due to weather and season.
