For 46 years, this Italian market and deli has been making waves in Cleveland Park and Washington, D.C.. Here's why you should visit: 1 Food: There's a deli in the back that sells Italian subs for under $10 and slices of pizza for $2.50. In an expensive city, it's hard to find a less expensive meal. I ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza. It's thin crusted, but good! 2 Market: They sell all kinds of Italian products from hard-to-get sodas to wines to homemade pasta to all kinds of frozen lasagnas. Cured meats and soccer balls hang from the ceiling. 3 Service: Candidly, it's not friendly and at time abrasive, but it's part of the experience. If you love Italy, wander to Cleveland Park's Vace.
Heard this place was good and they were right! I called & ordered an Italian sub and walked to pick it up, carry out only. Opened the door and the gorgeous aroma hit me. This tiny place was filled with goodies, go to their website. The pizza slices on the counter window look delightful. I couldn't wait to eat! My huge sub was waiting for me and I saw they had just made fresh beef empinadas, so I grabbed one of those, too. Sub & empinada are Delicioso! I WILL try the pizza next.
Pizza: 5 Stars, Service: 1 Star We’ve been going to Vace since moving to DC six years ago and their pizza is still my favorite in the District. However, they have an uncanny knack for hiring people with absolutely no customer service skills. I’ve witnessed many times where reasonable customers are responded to very rudely. The fact that we continue to go there is a testament to how good the pizza really is. Just don’t expect a well-rounded customer experience.
Best pizza place EVER! The pizza crust is the perfect thickness and the cheese is the perfect flavour. Not to mention that the workers work extremely hard to make sure you get what you ordered. I would 100 percent recommend this place to anyone. This is a DC treasure!
Pizza is super yummy - we always keep it simple with pepperoni. The sausage never tastes good to me. I’m giving Vace a 1 star because of the service. They’ve had a couple of older women who’ve worked there for years and their surly attitude is just too much; the owner s of Vace need to do something about it. I shudder to think about how they behave toward tourists. They are beyond rude and quite frankly it’s super off putting. There really is no excuse. That said, I’ll continue to order from this place only because I live in the hood - just wish they had a manager or someone on site to keep this kind of thing from happening and to bring the service up to current speed. If you’re taking your pizza home to re-heat: order it “half baked”. It’s a truly awesome option!
This place is a solid 3. Service can be rude - reviewers say it’s part of the experience. What experience? The Italian experience? I went to Italy and ppl were hella nice there. So in what world do I seek out a rude experience at a shop? Pizza - sauce is bland af. It’s literally there so the pizza has some moisture. Good crust though but There’s literally no flavor in that sauce. Quick bite on the cheap, yes! But it’s nothing compared to others pizzeria in the city. Def not worth the hype. Prosciutto- has a lot of tendons. Went to wegmans, much better.
So much Italian goodness in one tiny location! Though there's no room to sit and enjoy all the deliciousness, whomever's doing the buying and food preparation knows exactly what to hone in on to make Washington, D.C. feel like you've stepped into Naples, Italy. All the right foods and food prep is available, as well as mouth-watering pizza, subs, and deli items. Those lucky kids at American U can't possibly know how good they've got it!
First time visiting and I got a sub... but I didn’t know it didn’t come eith lettuce, tomato etc on it until I left. Toppings are an extra charge. It’s just meat and bread for $6.50 + tax. Also it’s cheaper on postmates vs in store and that’s weird. I gave it two stars bc the focaccia bread was tasty. Just wish the sandwich wasn’t so dry.
Perfect pizza. Simply perfect pizza. Absolutely perfect pizza. And they always have lots of big chunks of pecorino too. Nice sfogliatelle too. And GREAT pizza.
Such good pizza for much bigger portions and lower price than your standard chain restaurants. Ingredient combos were awesome. Can’t wait to come back.
