This has to be the worst vet in the greater Washington, D.C. area. We've been here twice. Never once have we been comfortable with the level of clarity provided by any member of the staff. People are consistently rude. We're consistently waiting forever on what ends up being service that only takes a moment. Techs are argumentative and make you feel bad for wanting to understand how to take care of your dog. They will do things to your animal without your permission and in a private room where you can't even see what's happening, even for minor operations. You have other veterinary options in the area. Do not choose this one. You can do better. Really sad to see this level of customer service at a place that apparently at one time was well-run given the average review. Would have been zero stars if that was an option. Just appalling.
Would not recommend this vet to anyone in DC. Provided 0 clarity or consistency regarding my dog’s health. Genuinely don’t think the staff even likes animals???? Pluses they didn’t have any of the medicine my dog needed in stock. It’s a no from me
I love the animal clinic the people are. Very nice. Your dog comes in one way and they come out another way. So happy!!!
The vet here is great, and the staff have always been helpful. I completely trust them with my dog. The only negative is that like a lot of other DC vets, it's not always easy to get an appointment and can take several weeks before they have availability.
When we got a puppy, our friends recommended this vet in a rowhouse along Pennsylvania Avenue. They were right- we love it! The staff are friendly, efficient and our dog loves them!
Great experience. Professional staff clearly explained what I needed to do/bring for my cat's visit. The pre-visit form is online and simple and visit fee reasonable. Exam was on time and Dr. Murphy unhurriedly explained the possible diagnoses and potential outlooks. Follow up phone call for test results was similarly clear. All in all, very pleasant experience.
Friendly and helpful staff. Reasonable prices and wait times are not long. They seem to very carefully schedule appointments to minimze the number of possible pet interactions in the waiting area or hall. Procedures and diagnoses are throughly explained in plain language and estimates for recommended follow-up care are provided. Definitely recommend!
Place was quaint and staff was personable, but not transparent with prices if they ask you to bring in your pets stool, it's $60 for them to run it. The real issue for me was being told by the vet to go to cvs for cat medicine, paying $70 for 14 pills, then checking online for it and finding 30 pills for $10 from ChewyRx. This cat medicine is also for FHV which is basically the most common cat disease, so not sure why the vet didn't have any or didn't know to recommend we go online for a fair price but some delay or cvs for people pharm insane prices but fast turnaround. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume the vet recommended cvs for the speed since they care about my cat getting better ASAP, but I still think they should mention the price disparity. I don't mind paying whatever price needs paying for my pet's health, but I do mind paying a lot more for no reason that can easily be avoided... 3/5 - just be ready to pay a lot more than you were told/expecting
Been going here for about 6 years now and I love the care that my dogs get. This year, one dog stopped walking suddenly and Dr. Murphy knew exactly what was wrong right away and made sure we went to the proper place for him to get surgery. Not to mention that the front desk ladies are amazing as well.
I have been a client of Capitol Hill Animal Clinic for many years, going back to when it opened. Compared to other clinics in the city, they do a very thorough and professional job at a very reasonable cost. Dr. Dan Murphy especially is extremely knowledgeable, takes his time with your pet and explains what needs to be done and why. Dr. Muhlbacher is a bit more imperious but is still very competent. The staff are very helpful. Highly recommend.
