Discovered the poster for Rocky the Musical at the lobby of the hostel I was staying at. As a theatre artist working in Canada I was very happy to come. The very friendly box office staff gave me an industry rate even though I didn't have an equity card to show her. So surprised to find America's oldest theatre in the centre of Philly. Love all the pieces of history throughout the space and the cozy downstairs bar & seating area.
I had a great experience when I attended a musical here recently. The performance was great, staff friendly, and conveniently located near some great restaurants like Talula's Garden. The only thing that could be improved on is the staffing of the bars during intermission. One staff member per bar was barely enough.
Walnut offers an historic, incomparable theater experience! We became subscribers this season, and Walnut did an incredible job handling the challenges of COVID. They had to sub 2 shows, but offered excellent replacements in the same timeframe. At Walnut, there is not a bad seat in the house no limited or distant views of the stage. Come early to check out the historic posters/memorabilia of America's oldest theater. Everyone from the Barrymores to Brando has performed here, and Walnut was the premiere location for some theater classics. Their prices per performance are reasonable and the staff are lovely. There's parking nearby and it's convenient by public transportation or walking.
Saw Rocky The Musical on 10/9/2022. Great Broadway-worthy show and Walnut Street Theatre was a nice place to see it. My only complaint about WST is the seats are cramped. Would be 5 stars if the seats were more roomy.
The Walnut Street Theater is a wonderful venue in the heart of Philadelphia. Always a great place to see a play or musical. Recently saw Legally Blonde the Musical. So much talent was on that stage, it had you smiling and clapping from beginning to end.
I love this theatre and have never seen a bad show here. The theatre is clean and the staff is always nice. Prices are reasonable for tickets. The reason for 3 stars is because during my last visit to Rocky, there was a group of loud drunk people behind me that spoke extremely loud during the majority of the show. I couldn’t focus on the show for the majority of the time while I knew half the likes and dislikes of the group behind me- what a time to get acquainted. I had hoped that someone from the staff would come say something but they never did. So I listed and listed and listed. In addition, while it was a 50 degree night, I felt air blowing on me the same as I would expect on a 100 degree night. I was freezing the entire show even though I wore 2 layers of clothes and a jacket. I enjoyed the show itself but it was mostly ruined by the loud mouths behind me and the freezing theater.
Americas oldest theater. Beautiful historic performance space with a small capacity presents rotating live stage acts.
I absolutely love their productions. The performances are always top notch. A great place to go on a Sunday evening or whatever time fit in your schedule. Our seats are always the same when you prepay your season package. I love it!
This is such a beautiful, historic theater. The quality of theater is world class. I have seen many shows over the years. The latest, with my daughter to see a holiday showing of Cinderella enchanted me as well as my daughter
Been going for two years. Last year my daughter and I saw The Little Mermaid. Even though it was mad packed we had a great time. The staff was very friendly, clean place and the show was awesome. This year we went to see Cinderella. It wasn’t as packed as last year great show still the reason for the two stars are because of the staff. The staff they have this year are rude. We were running late and we know that we had to wait until we can get seated after the first song. We used the bathroom and then decided to take some pictures while waiting. I asked one of the staff if she can take our picture, her response “No, I cannot” then walked away. Such a bad experience for my daughter to be shown such rudeness. I can understand if she was to say “due to Covid or security reason we can’t touch anyones phone” I would have been more understandable but to show this kind of behavior is unacceptable for the amount of money we pay, staff needs proper training or needs retraining. Then a different staff, when it was time to go in. I asked if she can point us to the right door and which seats, she looked at my ticket then said “oh you’re in row A left side, make sure you go through the last door cause you don’t want to disturb the performers. We usually want anyone seating from row A-C to be on time”. I had to bite my tongue cause I didn’t want to cause a scene in front of my daughter. I simply turned around and walked away. But yeah, not a great experience this year withy he staff. The gentleman cleaning the bathroom was very more friendlier than the women working there, he told us to enjoy the show ladies.
