I can’t say enough great things about Warhorse. Before I came here, I had lifted a few times here or there, but mostly did group fitness classes. I was very intimidated by barbell work and nervous, but quickly realized that I had no reason to be. All the coaches there are so welcoming, accommodating, and truly take the time to work with each member during the session. They offer helpful advice and any modifications you may need based on your fitness level. They are are encouraging and push you in a good way to do things you thought you couldn’t ever do. The space is clean, well maintained and has a variety of equipment. Chris and Jaclyn, the owners, know each member by name so it definitely has a community feel. They have truly created an amazing place and it will make you fall in love with strength training. I cannot recommend this place enough, it is truly the best gym in Philadelphia.
Best gym in Philadelphia and probably the world. I travel over 35 minutes to workout here in the morning and I arrive to a clean and well lit facility. The trainers are full of energy and are incredibly knowledgeable about their craft. They make excellent roll models for members. I love to escape in the community of outgoing members who truly care about you. This gym has everything you want in a gym. I highly recommend this gym and encourage you to give it a try. You will not be disappointed.
For the 11 months I was living in Northern Liberties, I spent 10 of them regularly visiting and training at Warhorse. As a fitness professional and NASM certified personal trainer, I can say with tremendous confidence that the Coaches at Warhorse are exactly who you want to be working with if you are looking to increase your strength and health. The Coaches are extremely knowledgeable and while it's a 'team based' gym, every program and exercise is personalized for each member. Warhorse is designed to help its members find success through their programming and hands-on coaches who are always present and offering modifications/amplifications for different lifts. Most importantly the Coaches prioritize their members health and safety -- setting realistic goals and realistic, yet challenging milestones to achieve them.
You really get what you pay for. My boyfriend and I have been coming here since September and love it! Personalized programs based on your goals, helpful and really friendly trainers, amazing environment. I’ve never lifted in my life before coming here but the trainers made it way less intimidating for me. It’s changed my whole perspective around physical and mental health and has really pushed me out of my comfort zone. It’s also really personable smaller class sizes, powerlifting meets, holiday parties!!, genuine trainers who care about your concerns. We plan to continue coming here for as long as we live in the area.
I am obsessed with this gym! It’s been about one year since I’ve joined, and I have gained so much strength and confidence. Everyone is incredibly kind & encouraging, and I love that there are so many different people here with different goals — powerlifting competitions, recovering from injuries, or prenatal strength for moms. Working out here is the best part of my day and I’m so grateful to the awesome staff
Warhorse Barbell Club is truly a special place. All these incredible Google reviews prompted me to schedule my first consultation, and whoa: I'm so glad I did. Since I started strength training at Warhorse, so many areas of my life have improved: my sleep, my physique, my chronic pain, my mental health, my sense of discipline. Following a serious accident that left my hips, pelvis, and legs crushed, I spent about a year re-learning how to walk. Once I was back on my feet, my physical therapists gave me the green light to go back to the gym: but I floundered through commercial gyms for years, never truly addressing significant weaknesses leftover from my injuries. I decided to give Warhorse a go. During my first consultation with Chris, we went over these injuries, and came up with an attack plan to get a baseline of strength back. Then, working with the incredible trainers to make modifications to key exercises Marta, Caolan, and Alex: you guys are angels, I started building that strength back. Now, I’m navigating the gym and equipment with confidence. I’m lifting heavier than I ever have. And my pain and weakness have decreased significantly. I’m also constantly inspired by the other members here: I still have to pick my jaw up off the floor when I see someone hit a new PR and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get a little lump in my throat when everyone in the gym cheers for them. It’s such a wholesome place. Also — it’s clear they’ve built a community that’s inclusive, supportive, welcoming, and intolerant of hate or disrespect. I see all kinds of bodies when I look around the gym: black, white, gay, trans, male, female, old, young. Everyone’s there to work hard, and get 1% better than they were. It's a safe place to do so. I have a whole new respect for my body and all the incredible things it can do, and for the power of process and consistency. This is all thanks to Warhorse and the great people who make this place what it is. OK, sorry for the novel! The short story: if you’re considering this gym, pick up the phone and schedule the consultation. You won’t be sorry :-
Warhorse Barbell Club will forever be my gym home in Philly! As a trainer myself I’m very picky with who I trust with my own fitness, and Chris and Jaclyn have it all here. From a great facility with incredible staff who are extremely knowledgeable to a tight knit community of members, WHBC is it. No matter your fitness level, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
I’d give this gym more stars if I could! When I joined I was looking to lift as a part of a community again and the globo gym where I was working out just wasn’t cutting it. I have a history of having done CrossFit and powerlifting in a barbell club and I missed that energy. So my goals were simple—rejoin a barbell club, build strength, and improve technique. Warhorse more than delivered! The environment is incredibly welcoming and the coaching I have received exceeded expectations! They are all so knowledgeable and their attention to detail is unmatched. I’ve become so boring at parties because all I can talk about is how great this gym is and try to convince all my friends to join. So thanks Warhorse for making me that guy. Seriously— join this gym so I can stop talking about it!
awesome gym, amazing program, great operators and coaches. i've been through the gauntlet of cross-fit, HIIT training, barry's, personal trainers, strength training on my own, etc. warhorse is an excellent approach and hybrid of personal training, strength training, HIIT, and self-motivated exercise. they have a great program that is customized to each individual, gives you just the right amount of oversight and guidance, but also allows you to push yourself and build your own flavor. i had completely underestimated how effective of a program it was until i got into it. my only regret is having moved far enough away that it's not feasible for me to continue going there. huge props and kudos to the warhorse team. they're all in and i highly recommend anyone who is serious about their fitness to check them out!
This is the best gym I have ever joined. It is a real community of folks who are serious about learning good form and getting strong. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
