Whidbey Telecom

Whidbey Telecom is unable to provide usable internet service to our Goss Lake area home. In the interest of supporting local business we've worked with them for many years, patiently waiting for them to offer service that is comparable to Comcast and others. We are on their highest tier of service ($60/mo) for internet available in our area. While this plan is supposed to cover 30 down/3 up we find the service is only robust enough to support one device/computer at a time. It's not possible for example to use google sync app and browse the internet at the same time, nor is it possible to have 2-3 users at the same time. The service is good for checking email and that's about it. When I called to speak with Whidbey Telecom about the issue, the tech support agent I spoke to was flippant at best, and was evasive about answering basic questions about our service. They were not able to provide any solution. We are told the "Big Gig" is coming to our area but they don't know when. It looks like we are going back to big, evil Comcast for now -- sometimes you just need something that works.

A tech came over to install my gigabit internet today. Got the usual three hour service window when I set the appointment up. Five minutes into that service window, I get a call informing me that the tech will be at my place in 10-15 minutes. Once he arrives, he is polite and attentive, always makes sure to take off his shoes before he enters my home, and always cleaned up after himself. He was very unobtrusive as he did his work, shop vacced the area he was working in once he was done, and even set up my wifi with the same credentials as I had before so that I wouldn't have to go through and reprogram all my devices. The internet works noticeably faster, and I'm pleased as punch, especially after the best service call I've ever had in my life. Thanks, Whidbey Tel!
