White Bird Dance

I attended the opening night of TrinityIrishDanceCompany. The first musical presentation was not very Irish and totally deafening. I had to stuff Kleenex into my ears to make it through it. The actual performance, both Dance and music was an absolute delight and I therefore recommend for anyone who can- should attend. My gratitude to the young dancing bodies, choreography and what all else goes into such a product - thank you!

The dancers of Trinity Dance were brilliant. Beautifully choreographed. I enjoyed the band very much as well. What a special treat they were, that was so unexpected for a dance performance. Very gifted musicians.

White Bird brings truly amazing dance companies from around the world....A.I.M by Kyle Abraham was one of these...An absolute breathtaking performance...Didn't want it to end...A MUST see!! Thank you

A,I,M by Kyle Abraham An Untitled Love was a beautiful combination of storytelling and dance that captured all the complexities of falling in love and how enthralling it can be, sometimes in slow motion, when time seems to stand still.

Great show! I had a hard time staying in my seat. Wanted to get up and dance. Lots of energy. Would see it again and highly recommend.

What an amazing performance! So unique and uplifting.

Went to the first show since Covid last night to see the Dance Theatre of Harlem. I’ve seen this troupe before Covid at White Bird and they were great. But for a first time opening season type of gala, last night was very, very disappointing. First, it started 40 minutes late, after promising in no uncertain terms it would start right on time. Then the three hosts proceeded to chatter on for 25 minutes about nothing important or necessary. "Great to see you, fantastic plans for this season, donate some money, blahblahblah." When part one finally started, it featured a Stevie Wonder sound track of unexceptional tired work underlying mediocre and trite dance moves by the troupe. On top of that some rude girl behind us screamed "woooohoooo " every time one dancer picked up another, like that "ballet 101" trick was the greatest dance move ever, sang along with the sound track, and would not stop screaming when asked. I know WB staff can’t do anything about a silly, immature, inconsiderate brat, even right on an aisle, but that was the last straw for us. We left after the first act, and probably won’t be returning or renewing our season’s tickets. A totally wasted evening. WB needs to tighten up and more thoroughly vet their acts, and maybe the age of their guests.

White Bird Dance is a "presenter" of modern dance from around the world. We have volunteered for them for a number of years and have attended a number of shows at various venues in Portland. A great majority of these performances area from good to very good to phenomenal. Occasionally they present a dud, but that is the exception and not the rule. Be careful of the Uncaged series as some is more performance art than dance. Interesting work to say the least, but not always modern dance. Paul & Walter are GREAT people and I am grateful to have worked with them and wish them continued success!!!

Wonderful organization that brings the best dance in the world to Portland. The staff is super friendly, and work tirelessly to make sure they accomplish their ambitious goals. Volunteers are treated graciously, and they provide many opportunities for volunteers and interns to learn about the great work they do. I could not be more appreciative of my experience interning with White Bird, as well as the magnificent companies they make accessible to Portland audiences.

Great company that brings dance to us in Portland! I saw someone saying terrible stuff about someone there & it wouldn't let me flag the review, so I just had to chime in & say, I don't know her terribly well who this person was talking about, but I do definitely know her - I won't add her name to add fuel to the fire - but I've had class & conversations with her & as well volunteered very briefly myself, & even though it didn't work out, her in particular as well as everyone else were nothing but lovely.
