I am a 100% disabled Veteran and went here for a routine stomach surgery. The surgeon was rude and abhorrent Dr. Kurt Fichtner, Asst Head of Surgery. He was extremely crass and abrasive, it is scary to be his patient. The white nurse made an extremely racist comment to my black family members and I, but the Patient Advocates said she would be "talked to". The whole experience was way below standards, and this is why I avoid the VA. Even if I am 100%. The incident was reported and then completely disregarded by management AND Patient Advocacy. They are definitely more concerned with protectingeach other'sjobs instead of taking care of disabled and sick Veterans. WE deserve better, avoid this chop house of a hospital if you can.
Had a 1pm GI appt today with Dr Suber gastrologist. She asked questions and listened to what I had to say. She was kind as always, and didn't talk down to me. I got there 15 minutes early. As soon as I got comfortable in my chair, the nurse called me back to do my vitals. I can't find one bad thing to say about this department . Every single person spoke to me with a genuine smile. They're all just another reason that I appreciate the great doctors and staff at the Dorn VA hospital!
Update: The administration must have noticed my comment previously a generous 3 stars for the Med pros as my care has dropped to just plain egregious. Critical meds disappear just before they are supposed to ship, appointments are down to just med refills, and care has dropped off considerably. Have had to start seeking other means of treatment. Access to care here is terrible like most V.A.s. They have long wait times for appointments and absolutely never answer their phone. I've spent hours on the phone trying to get to a clinic to make an appointment only to have the system regularly disconnecting me after 20 rings. To get any appointments you pretty much have to drive there and walk to each clinic.
Horrible. They do NOT care about anyone. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with other VA locations but Dorn is by far THE WORST. You will not get proper mental health care without having to jump through hoops and go back and forth with reception.
I have been to many VA's. This place is the worst. The only part that was not a nightmare was the ER the one time I went with chestpain. No other relatable experience with them. Dont call because it'll be a waste of you time.
The Veterans Administration Columbia SC, has made great strides to improving the Quality of Service to it's veterans. Less wait time and more follow up! Keep up the great work V.A.!
This hospital aids in their patients getting sick and dying. They prevent patients from getting diagnostic procedures such as MRIs and X-rays. They'll send you to physical therapy without even knowing what your true diagnosis is because they refuse to take any images.
After reading these reviews I have to feel so very lucky. I have had nothing but great experiences. The only time I’ve ever had to wait for anything longer than 10-15 minutes is x-ray & lab … and those are usually walk-in first come basis. I had total knee replacement in October 2019……could not be more pleased with Dr Huff, everyone in ortho, nurses on the floor where I had to spend one night, even the food was good. All the red coats are always helpful and ready to help. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
I want to give Kudos to the Blue Team. The past year under their care has been pretty good and stress free at every interaction. That is not the norm for Dorn. All of the rest of the hospital can learn a thing or two from them. They have been patient, prompt, considerate, transparent and they work with you as a patient, not against you. I look forward to continuing my care with them at this time. Thanks!
