[words] Bookstore

Pretty neat bookstore in a nice town. Things are a little pricey but good to see an old school bookstore around still.

Daughter and I were talked down to and treated in an extremely rude manner by staff (owner?) last night for the crime of "walking in at 9PM" when we "should have known" they were closed, despite the 7-8 people in the store socializing, laughing, taking pictures, and despite the fact that their door was still open. Even if it was too late to shop there is simply never any reason to be so obnoxious and disrespectful to customers. Disgraceful and shameful behavior. Will not return (not that they care I am sure!).

Maplewood's beloved bookstore, this neat and tidy shop is packed with an incredible selection of books for all tastes and ages. The children's section is large and well laid out so that each age and ability is easily found, with plenty of small gifts and creative play options as well if you need a gift pairing. The store holds frequent author events and more, both for adults and children, and their are always enough staff so that you are not waiting to be helped. You might get lost in here, but you won't mind at all.

Very cute, local and independently run bookstore in downtown Maplewood. Street parking and numbered parking in the town lot. Parking free on the evenings.

Beware: you can only get store credit for any returned purchases. I purchased a book on Monday afternoon in anticipation of a book signing event in the city, when I got to the event I found out the same book was being given away. I attempted to return my purchased book to Words, however only store credit will be issued- with or without receipt. The staff fails to make this detail known at time of purchase and when asked for explanation of policy staff was flippant and defensive. I will not be returning to Words due to this negative experience.
