This is the only place that I buy garden plants! The website is incredibly detailed and entertaining. Greg is really great at getting back to customers, answers questions in depth, and is very flexible with pickup times. The plants are gorgeous and I love being able to search by plant type, needs, location, and other characteristics.
Came in not knowing what I was looking for, only a space I wanted to fill. Andy was very helpful in showing me which plants would be appropriate for the sun exposure and desired size. I'll definitely be back again soon!
I'm a gardener and designer and I'm super impressed with a lot of the stuff these guys carry, and also their KNOWLEDGE that they're willing to share. I had nuanced questions about which Erigeron to buy and they had ANSWERS. I am from Austin, TX, so I snicker a bit about the Northwest needing Xeric plants, but honestly if you want to do almost nothing in your garden you can buy some great specimens from here that are low care, and gardening should be a pleasure anyway so if you wanna be lazy, some of these selections let you! ALSO I appreciate that they're affordable. Let's just say I call a well-known local place "Paycheck Nursery" for the nerve they have to charge a lot for 4 inch and gallon plants, but Xera has GOOD FAIR PRICING on smaller specimens. In fact most specimens here are smaller, but THIS IS OREGON, they will grow! I also love that they had some pretty fabulous evergreens like lesser known Osmanthus and viburnum species.
Don’t make the mistake of driving by this place! Their space may not be the biggest, but they fit a deceptively large number of offerings into it, and I found plenty of plants to geek out about and take home. Plus, their ethos of climate-adapted plants gives me confidence as a gardener new to the region. The staff was super helpful and knowledgeable — the man who assisted me took the extra time to help me select a palette of plants best suited for a container garden, and he had great recommendations. All my plants are doing amazingly several weeks later! I also found the prices to be very reasonable, and if I were doing my seasonal plant shopping again, I would check here first before moving onto some of the bigger garden centers in town.
It turned out I needed a much larger tree than they stock, but they provided me with terrific suggestions and guidance and referred me to another nursery that they knew carried the larger size of tree I required. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
For long time I want to visit this place. I don't gave them five starts just because they should have a bigger space but really interesting plants and great attention. No miss to visit them when they are open
The owners and staff are incredibly knowledgable and helpful. They've provided tons of useful feedback and direction for my garden projects without making me feel dumb for having so many questions. Their selection of plants is at once both eclectic and uniquely niche. The small nursery has a wonderful array of stuff packed into a small space which doesn't overwhelm, making every shopping trip feel like a success. Couldn't recommend this place more. My go-to. Check out their whole plant list on the website to get a sense of their breadth of plants.
This Urban Nursery is a treasure! They are super informative and helpful and picking out the perfect plant or shrub for your needs. I also like that the sizes are more moderate so you're not getting huge specimens that will not fit in your car. Also the prices are very good. I can't recommend this place enough! They also have an amazing website so be sure to check that out too.
Tiny tiny nursery specializing in low water plants Xeri = dry, in Greek or something. Not a huge selection in winter, and since most plants are dormant, it's like sticks in pots, but the guy was really friendly and helpful on their first day open for the season. Nice part is they will order anything you want and you can pick up later. Good knowledge resource for questions and problems, if you have those. Some cool and weird plants to look at. Not much for non gardening spouses, so bring a book if you are one of those.
Virginia is quite a distance from Zera Plants but if I lived closer, you can be sure that is where you would find me today.... wearing a of course!! Frustrated by my inability to locate a particular plant, I sent an email to Zera asking some questions. Lo and behold, I received a reply from Greg!!!!! That is incredible customer service and his knowledge was so helpful! Of course, he knew I wouldn’t even be a customer since I am so far away.... but he emailed just to help me out!!! THANK YOU, Greg!
