Great experience every time! It's my go-to spot for late night dining when I'm in town For those of you who aren't familiar with Hawaii, on Oahu we refer to the city of Honolulu as town. There's a late night menu with specials. There are also combo plates too, which is a fun way to share and try a variety of dishes/sushi. The most recent time I went, my friend and I got the chef's special of sushi pictured and it was delicious and unique. Keep in mind that there might be a wait if you don't have a reservation. But I don't recall ever waiting longer than 20min for a table. There is a dine-in time limit, which I recall is 90min. Considering this, it's best to be ready to order when your server comes by your table. Despite being a popular, busy restaurant, service is attentive. There are cool pictures on the walls so take a moment to look around. I always carry my jacket inside as I find it to be a little cold with the AC. Parking: Parking is free. There is very limited parking in front of the restaurant. There are more spaces available behind the restaurant, which is a shared parking lot for Yanagi sushi, Arthur Murray and possibly other local businesses in the area. Yet, keep in mind parking spots are also limited here. If I had to guess, maybe 20 cars max can fit in this back lot. People do park on the street but I have never done that. DO NOT park in the lot next to Yanagi sushi, the one on the side. They sometimes close that lot with a chain so you wouldn't be able to retrieve your car afterwards if you parked there.
Historic Sushi Spot in Honolulu. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi a little more traditional, with multiple options. Sushi was delicious and masterfully created. I really enjoyed the Sake Tasting flights. Make sure you give it try!
By far the best food on our entire trip. Extremely fresh fish. Authentic Japanese environment with quality serving staff. Reservation was required, but they accommodated a reservation within an hour of calling mid-day. The fried baby octopus tako appetizer and the Volcano Roll were amazing, the Dragon Roll was also fantastic.Dine in: Yes
A friend of mine brought me some sushi from here and it was pretty yummy. I'm not normally a sushi person and if I didn't like sushi in Hawaii, I wouldn't ever have it again. Yanagi Sushi definitely has left that door open. I honestly can't tell you what I ate, but I enjoyed all of it, in particular the salmon.
Absolutely amazing experience. Excellent California roll, the calamari and tempura were so fresh and amazing. Atmosphere was perfect and staff were so attentive. We had our own private area and made for a wonderful birthday night out with my family.
I love going to Yanagis whether it be for lunch or for their late night happy hour. Their food is spot on and I normally like to get their set combination meals. Parking is valet only up to 8pm I believe and then after 8pm is self parking. This is one of my favorite restaurant spots for any special occasion.
Excellent place! Heard a lot about it and needed to try it! We ordered the sashimi and sushi combo, oyster dynamite, volcano roll, and gyoza. Fresh fish and well prepared. Highly recommend!!Dine in: Yes
My husband and I Google’d best sushi in Honolulu and this place was top of the list so we went in with high hopes. The restaurant had valet service which was nice as parking is a nightmare in town. Once seated, we felt quite rushed with the wait staff standing beside our table waiting with pen and paper for us to order. Any time we came to an agreement on a roll multiple wait staff would approach the table. It was odd and because of this we were ordering one roll at a time. I’m the end, we ordered the rainbow roll, the Alaskan king crab roll, the spicy ahi nigiri and tako octopus nigiri. The rainbow roll was very fresh and easily the highlight of the meal. The spicy ahi was good and spicy but the seaweed was very chewy making it hard to eat. The tako was difficult to eat. There was a lot of wasabi used to hold the piece in place that it totally overpowered the octopus flavour. Lastly, was the king crab roll which was so plastered in mayonnaise it’s all we could taste! While the rolls had fresh fish we felt the flavours didn’t match the prices which were extremely high. I am a complete foodie so I have no issue spending money on food but this just didn’t make sense.
I came twice so far, Went 1/9/23 staff was a little rude even when asking for water only the 2nd time. Valet parking is a nice thing they offer, got the omakase sashimi for $80. And the sushi deluxe. The quantity and the quality is not worth it and I have had a lot of the more higher rated sushi places in the same area, it just doesn’t add up compared to other options. At least the interior is nice with the more Japanese cultural look.
I really adore this place! I have other reviews about sushi restaurants and this place is just amazing in Honolulu. The owner is authentic Japanese. But definitely their are complicated. Sometimes when I call to get a reservation they don’t have space but is because they never offer the sushi bar. So when I ask” do you have space at the sushi’s bar they say yes.
