Wow been in Charlotte for 6 years and this is my first time eating from here. Definitely been missing out, my meal was absolutely delicious. I got the brown stew chicken and it came with plantains, cabbage, rice and beans and a drink all for $10. The portion size was not lacking at all. I also got a side of Mac n cheese for $3. All my food was still very warm when I got home. That brown stew chicken is Thee Bomb. Very flavorful and fall off the bone. The plantains were some of the best I’ve had. I really enjoyed the cabbage. Many places I’ve had the cabbage usually be bland, this cabbage had flava. The rice and peas were plentiful and good also. The Mac and cheese was pretty good. Everything was 5 stars for me prices, portion, taste, freshness, the service, and although it’s not a sit in restaurant the place was clean and welcoming inside. Probably should have taken pic of food before I ate, but this was my leftovers after dinner which will be another meal for lunch or dinner tomorrow.
Love the food!! Big up chefs!! Curry chicken, mac cheese, and oxtail are delicious!!! Guy with beard in the back always friendly and the food isn't pricey like the others.
Flavor was decent but portion size is disrespectful as it relates to pricing and compared to other Jamaican restaurants…this is brown stew chicken I asked for gravy got none and 2 tiny pieces of chicken! Like how do you explain giving a customer this much chicken in a legit order?
Red Snapper, red beans and rice, cabbage, coconut curry shrimp is the best, I had since moving here to Charlotte. Customer service is great. I recommend Yard Cooked Dishes to anyone that loves Island food. Big ups to the cook.
I have been coming to this establishment for the last five years and the food has been tasty. This last time I ordered oxtails with cabbage. I was very disappointed after getting home and seeing and tasting what I had. The carrots in the cabbage were brown, the oxtails were black and everything was salty and floating in brown watery juice. What little I was able to force down gave me cramps and the runs. I will not be going back after paying $20 for garbage.
I haven’t even eaten here an the attitude of the old head at the front is a BIG turn off ! I’m picking up a order an it says Orange soda & 7up for the drinks . After I showed her the name she says you can grab the drinks an walks off. Not saying the orange drink is a Jamaican soda vs a Orange can that’s on the outside. Life is simple ignorant ppl make it hard. She didn’t give proper directions. An was more concern with the lady that came in cursing talking about how her charges an homemade moonshine. Another girl came in to pick up food an she did the same told her to grab the drink as she was walking off, came bck an told her not to open a box or something . Random an confusing. Instead of asking her what drink she was looking for she rather be smart. I WAS interested in trying your spot, it’s hard to find good authentic food. But I’ll stick to QuidleyS I don’t care how far it is ! They don’t have bad attitudes. They want customers ! Be blessed.
For the first time ever this restaurant aggravated me so bad. I went 2/4/21. First they were out of oxtail at 7 at night so I decide to try their pitiful wings. The girl at the counter said it’ll be less than 10 mins so I left for a few mins cause you know... covid. I come back and the food is STILL not done. Somebody ordered $40 worth of food like 10 mins after me & their food was done before mine! Don’t say the wings are cooked to order either cause they weren’t even hot. I ordered an extra wing so I could taste the flavor and before I left she said "he put the wing in the box with the other ones" I get to the car and no he did not put the wing in there. The fries didn’t have no seasoning like... I’m just so aggravated. I coulda went somewhere else and I honestly should have. I travel from the east side just to come to this restaurant but I won’t no more after tonight.
Great snapper with rice and vegetables, not super hot like other Caribbean places. For $20 you get about 3 plantains, a lb of rice, and a 14" whole fish. It was grilled in blacken season and a little olive oil and was great! Yesterday I had the best Jamaican donuts ever at Zion pineapple hut on beatties Ford and now this,, the islands are getting close!! Charlotte is awesome!!
I purchased 2 Brownstew fish dinner on Saturday. The chef told me I would not be disappointed. I reply I hope so. Well I can assure you that I was not disappointed at all. A matter of fact it was beyond my expectations. Especially the amount of food and it was delicious. I had to split it in three serving. This is my new spot. I don't care about the distance from where I live. I will drive every single time. This is authentic Jamaican food.
AMAZING. Brown Stew Chicken is fall-off-the-bone tender. Rice and Peas are beautifully seasoned. The cabbage is superb. Will definitely be back soon!
