This yoga studio is my home away from home, and I LOVE it here! After sampling several of the city’s studios, I can confidently say it’s one of the best. The classes in general are typically on the more challenging side of things, but up-level and down-level modifications are always offered. The studio allows the instructors to be creative in their sequencing; each week is different and interesting. For me, that’s so important for keeping my mind engaged. There are showers and mats for rent and towels for rent and yoga supplies for use during class. Yes, it can be cramped. Yes, the Saturday morning hip-hop class will be packed. But that’s the fun! Finally, in addition to all the other aspects I love, the staff here is AMAZING! This might be the real reason I’ve been at the studio for so long. They are always kind and helpful and flexible, and this makes a subtle but HUGE impact on my experience. I highly recommend you check it out!! The new student specials are really great too.
I have only attended a handful of classes here, mostly Vinyasa Flow. However my experience was always positive. The staff is friendly and professional, and the instructors are very encouraging and uplifting. I appreciate the one-and-a-half hour class times to truly get a well-rounded experience and the strict rules regarding punctuality and cell phone use. This has been my favorite yoga studio in Boston thus far.
Nice studio, especially yoga and deep relaxation class so good! The class is Friday that is why a little bit crowded, but it can also motivate you. Teachers are well-prepared, supportive and friendly.
Really quality teachers here. Lots of 90 minute classes, which I love if you can fit them into your schedule and cheap community classes during the day. The facilities aren't my favorite but who cares when you leave some of the best yoga you've ever done? Super challenging and great for all levels, they also have a huge array of classes to pick from. Izzy is amazing for acro yoga! Aaron Cantor will kick your butt, but with love, Cara has some great playlists for her fun daytime classes, and Goldie sets up the flow very thoughtfully, building up into peak poses. Love them all, definitely recommended. Kind of pricey if you want unlimited for the month 150 bucks/month I think but great new student prices. Worth signing up for classes online because they do get full specially hip hop yoga in the evenings
I had to share this review after the transformative experience I had with Pamela Newman during her Yin and Restorative class. I shared with Pamela before class some of my blockages and tight areas. She listened attentively and offered incredible insight, which I carried with me through my practice. Throughout she was intentional to offer modifications specific to me and my body. Needless to say this class was deeply cleansing for me on many levels. Pamela took the time to check in with me after class and left me feeling supported and completely welcome. I have been looking for a new yoga home since moving in December. I have purchased a class package and look forward to continuing this journey.
The studio is pretty average looking, a little run down. The teachers often do not instruct how to get into a hard pose and students sat around classes numerous times trying to watch other students who were trained yoga teachers taking the class doing the pose and try to figure it out. The teacher saw students who did not know how to do the pose but did not take advantage of the time to teach, instead she just delighted in the success of her more advanced students pushing themselves into more extreme postures. In terms of headstands and other more precarious poses, this hands off teaching style could lead to injuries. The classes often seemed more about a workout than about learning how to do a pose correctly. The staff is not overly welcoming either.
I love Back Bay Yoga because they offer so many different kinds of classes and there really is a class that suits everyones needs. The teachers are thoughtful, innovative and caring, and they really look out for their students' well being. I have been coming here for over a year now and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking to start practicing yoga, and also to seasoned practitioners.
This is my absolute favorite studio. Yes, they pack 50-60 people in a room, yes you can smell/touch the person next to you, and yes, you drip swimming pools onto your mat. I want to run out of the room sometimes when there's sweat dripping into my nose/eyes, but the way you feel after these classes makes it all worth it. You'll be sore. This studio is probably the only real STUDIO I've seen in Boston. They have 2 yoga class rooms, a small stand-up shop with apparel, mats, accessories, filtered water stations, bathrooms/showers, and "locker" storage for mats. The rooms are so hot all the time I'm not sure how clean the studio is, but honestly I walk in there knowing I will sweat my body right off so I really don't mind. After trying the new member special $25 for 2 weeks, I really enjoy the Vinyasa Flow, Flyin' Vinyasa, Hip Hop Yoga depending on the instructor, and Black Light Yoga. I definitely recommend taking a class with Renee LaBlanc if you aren't a new yogi. She will literally kick your ass/abs/arms into shape and you will be sore after her class. I'm not sure what she does differently but I always sweat 10x more in her classes. She also has a great sense of humor and is really approachable if you have any questions. Other teachers to take classes with: Goldie - She always has really great sequences. She tends to include long Shavasana's though. Kim - Some days she works you really hard, some days she's more chill. I'm hooked, and now determined to accomplish inversions.
Been going here for years and I love it. This place taught me yoga. Most of the teachers are excellent. I am very into Aaron Cantor's class...his style is very different and it is one that I really appreciate.
I participated in HipHop Yoga tonight. It was very intense emotionally and physically. The teacher was good, the venue was trendy and the staff was nice. Overall, a very good experience.
