Been going to Yuri for seven years and counting. He gets the job done, including fixing an antique watch that nobody else could. He’s fast and fair. Highly recommend.
They helped me fix up my watch very quick, appreciate it guys, have a happy new year!
Being unable to make it in to replace the batteries in 3 of my watches, I sent my wife instead to run the errand for me. It is only because of her terrible experience which she later related to me -- for which I feel wholly responsible -- that I feel compelled to write this review. When she first went to the store, right from the start she was treated poorly. She was never greeted properly, and the man who "took care of her" never did so much as smile. In fact, no sooner had she explained that she was looking to replace the batteries in the watches than he grabbed them from her and started to work on them. When she wanted to stop him just to inquire about the pricing, he stopped what he'd started, sighed heavily and tapped his tool in a very obvious and impatient way that only showed he was annoyed, while he waited for my wife to confer with me about the quote. It was $15 for two, $55 for the second which turned out to need two batteries. Well, it turned out that the costlier job wasn't quite fixed; although he did replace the batteries, the watch wasn't functioning properly anymore. Based on my wife's account, I was reluctant to send her again and offered to go myself when I had the time; but she was kind enough to gather as much information as I could provide her about the problem because she isn't familiar with such things and went back the following day, which was today. Same thing: she never felt welcome, nor was she ever appreciated for her business. No smile. She explained what was wrong, and he suggested that perhaps the watch had been tampered with just to clarify, this was the first ever battery replacement; and taking the cover off the back of this watch would require special tools. He sighed his way through the job again. Once done, he simply handed the watch back to her without so much as a glance her way, only saying "Done." I feel very bad for having practically put my wife through this, because I found this business through my own research. Whoever this gentleman is, he definitely lacks in people and customer service skills. I confess to being genuinely surprised at the rating given him on here, and would definitely not recommend this place.
Yuri might be good for changing batteries and adjusting watch band, but in my opinion is not a master watch maker. As an analogy, he is good at changing oil and wiper blades on a Corolla, but I wouldn't bring him my Lexus for engine work. I brought in my $5k Tag Yea, I know Tags s__k, but that's a different story to Yuri because it was running fast. He told me no problem, he can fix it. He adjusted something and charged me $75. A week later I found the watch was still running fast, so I brought it back to him. He then told me that the watch needed an overhaul. Why didn't he tell me that the first time he tried adjusting it and charged me $75. I asked if he can deduct the $75 off the overhaul cost and he replied "No, he did his best the first time." So just wanting an accurate running watch again, I told him to go ahead and do the overhaul. Paid him $375, so a total of $475. After the overhaul, THE WATCH WAS STILL RUNNING FAST. A minute per day. Part of overhauling was calibrating, especially since I told Yuri I wanted the watch to be within COSC specs. Did he even time the watch before giving it back to me? I took the watch back to him and he adjusted something and gave it back to me. A week later the watch WAS STILL RUNNING FAST. I took the watch back to him a total of three times and he was not able to adjust it to even within 20 seconds per day. 20 seconds might be OK for a run of the mill automatic, but not a COSC Swiss watch. Finally I gave up and now I am out $475. Not only that, but now I find the watch doesn't even hack properly. When you pull the crown all the way out to stop the seconds hand, the hand will start moving again when you tap the watch even slightly. And no, the watch was not a 20 or 30 year old watch. It was less than three years old and since it was no longer covered under Tag's worthless warranty and since I didn't want to spend $500 for an authorized service repair, which was what I paid ultimately, I brought it to Yuri. Yuri - good for changing watch batteries, but I wouldn't trust him for REAL repair work.
I did my watch band adjucement here. Yuri did it very quickly and professionally. Also I replaced my leather band on my other watch. He has some collection of leather bands in case you need one. It took only 5 mins! I highly recommend this place. And I will come back for sure!
I had an 19th century clock repaired here and not sure if they did all they claimed to do. They told me it would cost $600. I said ok. It runs fine except I have to move it forward daily. I recommended them to neighbors on my street for a Grandfather Clock....and told them what I paid. Village Watch picked up the inner of the clock and told them it would be $600 minimum. They called my neighbors to tell them it would be another $900.00 to fix it. They agreed. The clock was delivered about 4 months later....and before the deliverer had left the neighborhood, the clock stopped....They were called back and did so immediately. It has now been 4 months since they have had the clock and told my neighbors they had so many clocks to work on it would not be ready for a while. They also told them that they were closing for a month to go to Israel and would not be back until Jan 20, 2016. My neighbor told them to fix it and not to use basic hardware store items to use as a fix which they did in the first attempted fix. This shop used to have a high reputation; however, under the current management which can only pick up items one evening week I would never recommend them again. My own clock works, but I still have to adjust it every day. The fellow who works on the clocks and picks them up wanted to buy my clock and said he would buy anything in my home I was selling. He said a similar thing to my neighbor. Beware of Yuri. Get a price first and a written contract.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE I called Yuri to check authenticity of this watch my girlfriend purchased. He said, "if it's not too much trouble, it won't cost you." When I went in to his store he looked at the watch and said $20 for the appraisal. I agreed. He popped opened the back of watch with something that looked like pliers and took LESS THAN A SECOND to do. He barely examines the watch and tells it authentic. THATS IT!!!!! $20!!!!! RIDICULOUS! I asked to punch an extra hole into the leather band. He didn't look to even line it properly. I had to scream to tell him to "STOP"! Then he realigned it and punch through the band. The final result was one hole, that was 1 mm off the series in band, and deep tear made from the first time he hole he tried to punch into the band. This wouldn't have happened if he was careful and NOT THIS SLOPPY. This is IRREPLACEABLE Hermes studded BAND. When I got home, my girlfriend was VERY UPSET. She examined the band and saw that there were a few deep scratches in the back of the watch where Yuri popped the back part open. SCRATCHES FROM JUST OPENING THE BACK UP. And there is an additional dent on the edge of the watch. He is NOT PROFESSIONAL. He shouldn't go near any fine watches. My girlfriend is upset and it has made my life miserable. I wish I had never gone to this store and met this UNPROFESSIONAL PERSON. DONT GO HERE. Don't be cheap and waste your money here. YOU WILL REGRET IT. If I could give negative stars on the rating I would.
I needed a battery replaced and a new band put in and Yuri did the battery in no more than 8 seconds. I described the band I wanted and he produced it in no time. He was very contrite and it couldn't have been a better experience. Those who are raving about him and not giving five star reviews should be ashamed.
