I came to the Village Zendo while visiting a friend. I live in Virginia. I liked it so much that I attended a retreat, then two, and have since become a long distance member. This is a beautiful gem of a Sangha and a wonderful space to practice the Dharma. The teachers are wise, approachable, genuine, and caring. Everyone is welcoming. They do a fantastic job of creating a safe space for people who are just learning about the Soto Zen tradition.

The Village Zendo is a much-needed sanctuary located right in the heart of frenetic downtown NYC. This beautiful space is open at least 15 times per week so there are many opportunities to visit and meditate here. The teachers and Dharma talks are wonderful, and there are cultural activities and workshops available as well. Definitely worth a visit!

A genuine and authentic experience. The teachers are deep and practiced, giving true Zen training in the middle of soho. The more I come, the richer this experience is. I'm truly grateful to have this refuge.

I have attended many events at the Village Zendo, traveling from MA and more recently ME. I only wish I lived closer so I could attend more frequently. While I do go to Buddhist centers that are closer and have had wonderful experiences, I still travel the distance whenever possible because the experience there is unlike anything I have found elsewhere.

There are many places to drop in to go meditate. The Village Zendo is a community that practices Soto Zen. That practice then permeates our daily lives with one another and the world. We do not take ourselves too seriously but as a serious practice, it has a real impact personally which allows for whatever your expression of living is. The main practice is sitting meditation. Zazen. There are many other points of practice that include liturgy and activism. To learn more visit our Facebook page and website.
