Our experience here at Zhen Ren Chuan has been consistently excellent! All of the instructors are professional, inspiring and supportive of all their students. Our son has been taking lessons here for over a year now and his confidence has grown along with his martial arts abilities. I credit Instructor Charles in particular for my son’s continued enthusiasm, enjoyment, and love of learning karate. I highly recommend this studio for beginners of karate whether you’re a child or adult. I look forward to bringing my son here each week.
My daughter has been attending Zhen Ren Chuan for about 2 years now. She has grown in confidence, skill, and maturity. She uses many of the life lessons she learns in class at home. She feels challenged to not only be a better martial artist, but a better student, friend, and community member. Instructor Charles works hard to create a welcoming environment and community at his school. The classes have been well worth the investment.
My son Wesley age 4 has been attending ZRC for several months now, he choses to participate in 2 sessions weekly. He always has a huge smile on his face during class and recently participated in his first graduation ceremony. Some of the things we have noticed in our son's behavior are increased respect and listening skills, time management, and greater physical endurance. We are grateful to Charles and all the instructors for the kindness and care they have shown to Wes and my family. Many thanks to ZRC!
So much for the art of the true human being. Charles the instructor has some weird power complex he likes to wield. In an initial phone conversation, I explained my interest in bringing in my two nieces 3 & 6 years old during their Boston visit to try his 3 lesson introductory package to see how they like martial arts. He says no worries, we can set up an in-person interview when they're in town two weeks later. At the interview, he has a total change of heart saying he needs a minimum 6 month commitment so the 3 lesson intro package is no longer possible. He claims he just got his Pee Wee class to settle in so introducing new students who will take time to adjust would disrupt his work. Proceeds to ask the girls in an intimidating manner to repeat after him, "[his] name is Charles the instructor," to prove his point. Background context: I had called an hour before the interview for rescheduling options but showed up on time anyway which I believe irked him. I also had my 13 month old with me who was exploring the big wooden tiger and beaded curtains in the room that seems to have made him nervous. When I told him the baby was fine, I think he didn't like me telling him that. Not sure how the discipline of martial arts is making him cultivate his "art of the true human being" if this is how he engages with kids. I'm glad we found out we are not a good fit before making a measly $29 commitment with the intro package. Updating to add that I knew I was taking a risk writing this review because I expected him to share too much information on my nieces as he'd done so with a previous reviewer's child. My expectation was not wrong; there's no hesitation in sharing information on children and that's concerning as a parent as well as community member.
Zhen Ren Chuan Martial Arts is a great program I have been a student for many years and came from np experience with martial arts and have learned so much from my training about not just form and movements but discipline mindfulness patience and persistence. Instructor Charles truly cares about the growth of his students and their experience. I have grown a lot from experiences at the school. The students and community within the school are friendly and welcoming as well which makes it a lot of fun. I highly recommend this program for anyone with the ambition to learn martial arts.
Both of my sons are signed up, one in pee wee and the other in juniors. They both love attending their classes. It’s been amazing to watch them improve in their balance, coordination, discipline and confidence. I can’t say enough about the instructors, all have patience and show such dedication. I would absolutely recommend!!
My son has been in the Pee Wee program for almost six months, and his experience has exceeded our expectations. He loves attending the classes and his overall balance and coordination have improved as well. The instructors are patient yet keep the kids on task and take time to address life skills, posture, emotions, etc.
I would not recommend this Martial Arts studio. My son doesn't want to attend the class after 5 months. When we tried to discuss the cancellation, Charles was super rude!!! Totally different person than when he hosted us for signing up. Now we are forced to pay for the rest of the year even my son won't go anymore. When you start you are forced to sign a 1 year irrevocable payment plan that ultimately adds up to well over $2K. Never seen any aggressive clause like this for a kids' contract!!!
One of a kind place. They challenge you with every move they do. They help you with social skills. Awesome place to go. Instructors are super nice. Curriculum is awesome. This is different then the other martial art studios. They don't just teach punches and kicks, they teach everything from Tai Chi to Muay Thai.
Our son, 9, began training at Zhen Ren Chuan over four years ago. It has been a journey; one that was at first solely our idea as his parents, and that slowly became his over time and now he fully claims as something of great value to him. Instructor Master Charles and the other instructors are gifted, caring, and consistent teachers that from the beginning wrapped our son in a tight sense of community. Their instruction emphasizes respect for self and other, commitment, discipline, persistence, self-regulation and emotional awareness, all while modeling a very hard-to-achieve combination of firmness, grace, and good humor. I've observed many a lesson and been delighted at how some pretty nuanced concepts are made to make such clear sense for little ears. Often we've taken the instructors' words and concepts home; it has served our parenting and our child extremely well. Our son has grown tremendously through his work at ZRC and we can't wait to see what more he does with it.
