A Helping Hand - Home Care

Mom moved to a care facility in Mason City. I go quite frequently to visit, but cannot always get over there everyday. I know Vern as a friend and did not hesitate to ask him if he would be interested taking Mom to the YMCA therapy pool. Vern is caring and compassionate to the people he helps. He follows up with me each time to let me know how things go, and I truly appreciate that. She enjoys it and looks forward to it on Tuesdays. Vern is easy to work with and will do as much or little as you would like.

Vern has been our "family member in town" since dad had a health decline in March. He has been even more available for dad than any of his offspring could be even if we were in town. He has increased dad's quality of life and enhanced his safety in a way that is very comforting to the family. He is a great advocate for dad. He is very sensitive, thoughtful and caring. From Nancy H. - My mother fell and fractured her hip last winter~~~on top of stress fractures in her back two weeks before she fell and broke her hip. She was living in an assisted living facility when she fractured her hip. Unfortunately she was unable to remain there and I was forced to look for a nursing home for my mother. I no longer live in Mason City where I grew up. I called and talked with Vern and he was there right away to assess my mother's situation and offer his help. He has not only been a companion for my mother but has taken her to doctor appointments and makes sure she has everything she needs and more. He is a bright ray of sunshine for my mother and she looks forward to his visits 3 times a week. He makes sure she is staying involved with activities and people at her nursing home. He was there for her Mother's Day weekend to be sure she had someone there for the breakfast and made sure my mother's brother was included. He not only takes her to her appointments but sends me a detailed report on what the doctor does and says. You don't have to ask ~~~Vern thinks of things to do for my mother before I even think about it. He takes pictures of my mother at each visit and texts me the pictures and everything my mom did that day and updates on how she is feeling etc.....he takes his mother with him occasionally and my mom loves to see her come with Vern. He has become like the son my mother never had~~~~I cannot say enough about all Vern has done for my mother. The quality of her life has improved immensely since Vern started seeing her. I feel so blessed as I cannot be there with my mom like I want to and Vern helps fill that void and I don't worry like I used to.
