In the fall of 1918, citizens of Oak Shades, a section of the township got together to discuss fire protection. On Tuesday, December 3rd, the Oak Shades Fire Company was organized.
In 1977, the voters of Matawan Township voted to change the township's name to Aberdeen Township. As a result, the fire company changed its name to Aberdeen Township Hose & Chemical Company No. 1 Inc., reflecting the new name of the township.
Today in its 97th consecutive year of service, a membership of more than forty volunteers fire fighters stands ready, day and night to serve the citizens of Aberdeen Township, and looks forward to celebrating 100 years of service in 2018.
