Abyssinia Restaurant

About

Experience the taste of Ethiopia...

Description

Abyssinia opened in October 2000 by husband and wife Daniel Tekilu and Aster Mengsha. Unfortunately after being open for 11 years, Abyssinia had to close its University Ave. location due to conflicts with the building owner. But during the time that its was closed, a new location was being renovated in Mount Hope Plaza. Aster and Daniel are very grateful to the customers who have come to them time and time again asking about Abyssinia. But the wait is almost over! Thanks to all our loyal customers!

One of my favorite places for vegan options. Excellent coffee with or without sugar! Servers are polite and attentive and food is authentic and delicious. My favorite it the timatim salata but everything is well seasoned and delicious! It's real Ethiopians in the kitchen and serving your meals, that's how you know the food is real!
what a beautiful and cozy restaurant with absolutely amazing food!! my family and I have never tried Ethiopian food before and we were so delighted with a platter of all kinds of vegan options. eating with the sourdough bread was such a great experience and we loved the format of eating altogether from one large dish. we could taste the quality of the spices- we learned from the friendly staff that the dishes are spiced in Ethiopia! i recommend this place to anyone in need of delicious comfort food or to try something new :
Food was amazing. We got the vegetarian dish with 10 different meals, each with great flavor. We also got sambusa the beef option, very tasty and filling. Nice quiet atmosphere, friendly staff, and definitely would come back again! Vegetarian options: Good veggie options. And I think the Injera bread is gluten free Parking: No problems with parking
The food was wonderful here! Our waitress was so nice and was able to explain the food to us since we had never had Ethiopian food before. The coffee was great too. We'll definitely be coming back.
Food was so wonderful I wanted seconds the owner was so nice. If I was wish I'd leave a big tip. Oh yeah the samosas was so delicious
I'm happy to have found some Ethiopian restaurant; that's good, clean food. Too bad this place is understaffed. As a group, our patience was tested, water was spilled on clients' clothes by the server, eyes rolled when I asked for ice for the 3rd time. I would not go back for the atmosphereFood: 4/5
Easily the best vegetarian options I’ve had at an Ethiopian restaurant. They’re friendly and personable, the food is amazing, and their honey wine is delicious. You can pick up to five different dishes with their vegetarian combo. Kind of bummed that I didn’t come sooner, but happy I’ve tried it!
Good food. It was a different experience to eat without utensils. The sambusas were to die for, definitely a must try!
We had ordered a large vegetarian platter. It was an absolute delight! Ingeri with so many curries left us totally satisfied. It was about 20 dollars before tips. Parking: Big restaurant, lot of spots
Absolutely delicious! My husband and I stopped here on our road trip, and were not disappointed. Also thrilled to find out they can make gluten free injera. There is definitely something for everyone here.Recommended dishesVegan
