Certified Application Counselors and Florida KidCare Assisters are available to assist families with their health insurance.
From 2013 to 2018 we provided application and enrollment assistance and outreach for Florida KidCare and saw a decline in the number of children uninsured from 7,203 KidCare eligible to 1,603 KidCare eligible. Through a grant from University of South Florida and then through the efforts of the United Way of Brevard Health Insurance Navigators we helped in this process. Other contributing factors included the changes to Medicaid that occurred due to the Affordable Care Act and the work of other agencies assisting with Florida KidCare applications. During that same period of time (2013 -2018), United Way of Brevard received a grant from University of South Florida to provide health insurance navigators for Brevard County. During the past five years, we saw a decline in the number of uninsured adults in Brevard from 92,000 to 57,971 (approximately 30,000 fall under the Medicaid Gap and are not eligible for subsidies.) There are approximately 28,000 uninsured adults in Brevard County who are still eligible for tax credits in the Federal Marketplace.
