AQ is the highlight of our daughters' year. Every aspect of their adventure was outstanding including but not limited to the support and professionalism of the staff, the quality of the programming and activities, and the thoughtfulness of the planning of the entire session. What's best about ActionQuest? So many things beginning with the qualifications and professionalism of the staff. I understand and am deeply appreciative of all the planning that goes into ensuring that the adventures are fun, educational, and safely executed.
Our son is definitely more confident, talkative, empathetic and motivated about his future after coming back from his trip. The perfect combination of independence, co-living, learning and no electronics! I loved having the blogs to read, so kudos for those. On a non-CoVid year, I could see that this is a well-worn path that AQ has perfected over the years, but they should be commended for stepping up and adapting to the CoVid testing, restrictions, and challenges this summer presented.
100% the best experience of my life and I will tell you exactly why: The vulnerability that was shared on this trip is truly something I will never forget and never get over. I went into the trip thinking that it would only be centered around marine biology, but I was proved wrong in the best possible way. By having reflective conversations with my crew, feeling safe enough to cry when talking about difficult things in my life, and having the support throughout it all, is such a gift and I am forever grateful to ActionQuest for providing me with that experience. I have recommended it to everyone I know, all my parent’s friends, and everyone can see the joy I have after being there. I have not been that happy in a really long time so once again thank you to everyone who made those three weeks possible, and the best three weeks of my entire life. The food was great for being on a boat for three weeks. There were rarely any meals that I had a serious dislike for. Everything was more than I could ever dream of. Please understand that it is not one thing that makes ActionQuest so amazing. Everything about it, the people, the crew, and the activities made this experience the most amazing three weeks of my life. I couldn’t pick just one. Thank you so much for letting me have the opportunity to come out. This trip has made me want to come back time and time again, even as a counselor one day. I am forever grateful. This is just the beginning of my adventure, and I couldn’t have asked for a better start than ActionQuest.
“Experiences are essential in helping our children successfully maneuver through life. This program is the poster child for this ideology. There was not one "thing" I could have gotten my daughter that would have replaced this experience. In addition--sign up, payments, flight booking, etc. was so smooth and everyone was very helpful. Living in New Mexico made the flights a little tricky, but it all went perfectly. I do not know of any disciplinary or medical emergencies. I expect bumps, bruises, and maybe a spat or two. It appears my daughter was on "The Love Boat" so they seemed to have worked all that out. I love, love, love the blog and Facebook updates. We all lived vicariously through her for those 17 days. It is a great way to update parents and I am guessing makes those who want phone calls more relaxed."
ActionQuest was well run, stayed true to its mission statement and was fun! The kids were independent, out of their comfort zone, essentially phone free. My son loved the program and I would recommend it to anyone.
I am writing this on behalf of my daughter Grace, who has gone for two years. When I hit the link to write a review it is not allowing me to change the user sorry not very strong with tech. Anyways, Grace LOVED each experience advanced certification 2021 and Rescue diving 2022. Each trip she met a wonderful group of friends which she continues to keep in touch with. She was able to see some remarkable places although there were some restrictions due to the pandemic, which was understandable. More importantly she learned very important skills and experiences in diving through the lessons, reading materials, and exercises while at camp. She has already put those skills to good use. We took a Cruise August 2022 and booked a dive outside the cruise ship which I often do without any problems. This one dive in the Caribbean wasn't the safest. Grace alerted the Dive Master he took the gorup of us about 8 of us too deep at the depth of 129. She tapped him and showed him her dive watch, at which time he directed us to all ascend up. My son, who is only a Jr. diver shouldn't go that deep. I believe the dive boat dropped us off about 100 yards off from the correct spot and a recent storm made it difficult to find the cliffs they were looking for. Any case, after finding it my son used a lot of air and did his safety stop with the dive master and surfaced. The dive master left a local teenage boy with the rest of the group. Although the teenager may know how to dive, knows the area well he wasn't responsible enough for the group. Grace began doing hand signals to alert everyone to do a safety stop. She indicated how many minutes we had as every minute went by. If anyone started to go to high she would signal to them to come down to her level. Overall she took over the situation and used the skills and techniques she learned at ActionQuest. So THANK you Actionquest for teaching her such valuable skills that were put to good use. Many friends, family and strangers who overheard any discussions about Actionquest know Grace's feelings about it- SHE loved every minute of it. The crew, the friends, the boat, the landscape, the excursions, the water sports, the beaches, the hiking, and the swimming. The ONLY thing she complained about was the food not the highest reviews but I think shes being too critical. We would recommend the program to anyone interested in going. We hope she can go back next year.
My daughter had an amazing experience. She loved every aspect of the trip. She was on a boat this year with 2 groups, 4 Neptune’s and 9 Dolphins. She loved the mix as it gave her the opportunity to meet more Neptune’s in other dive side boats. She completed over 25 dives and received multiple certifications. She was never homesick and enjoyed her shipmates and crew. My daughter’s boat this year had 3 kids from Europe and a cross section of the US. Love that she was able to meet kids from so many different regions as she has lived in the Midwest her whole life. I think it is an empowering program for teens. It forces them to be self reliant and problem solvers. Additionally, they learn to interact successfully with different personalities, kids they might not befriend at home. Very positive experience. Love that you incorporated service as well.
My son's experience was above and beyond our wildest expectations. He came back a confident and happy guy, very proud of having successfully faced the challenges of the trip. The counselors were top-notch - caring, capable, and fun. It was truly a life-changing experience for him. I was very impressed with the program after initially talking to Jake on the phone. He spent a lot of time answering my questions and making me feel that the program was a good fit for my son. The staff was always helpful when I called with questions before the trip. Leah the travel agent was also very easy to work with for travel plans, and made the whole process a breeze. My son's travel days went seamlessly. It was great that there were a few kids flying together from Boston, as he did not know anyone. These kids were very friendly right away, which was great. While my son was away for the 3 weeks, we were treated to a creatively crafted blog posts every day - such a wonderful way to keep in touch and much appreciated. It was clear that the kids were really having a ball as we read the posts every morning. I have never seen my kid as happy as he was when he returned. Just had a whole new air of confidence about him, and now has a whole set of goals he wants to work on - getting his sailing credentials over time, learning to scuba dive, and planning on taking a gap year to sail! The instructors really seemed to make the trip for my son. Shannon, George, and Elise were so supportive and fun, and taught him so much. They really gave of themselves, it seemed. Also, my son really appreciated the fact that there was enough "down time" along with all of the super active time. That is really important to him. And that the kids were given a fair amount of independence when exploring on land. He felt that he was treated with respect and trust, which is so key at age 16! He loved having time to wander around the various towns. He also loved visiting some of the historic sites, and the boat yard I forget which island that was. It was great that there were some alternatives to the harder hikes for kids with major problems with the heat, like my son. He loves to eat, and had nothing negative to say about food - loved it all! Especially the opportunity to eat in the towns. Overall an incredibly supportive, caring, exciting and nurturing environment was created on this trip, that gave my son a gift he will never forget!!
We were so impressed by the website and information available for Action Quest during our search for our daughters summer plans. My 16 year old daughter just returned from her first Action Quest camp. She says it was the best experience of her life. Blair has always been a water child. She fell in love with sailing, scuba and the Aeolus family. The professionalism of the staff and knowledge of sailing and scuba we believe made a lasting impression on our daughter. She's now trying to plan how she can follow in their footsteps. Everything was perfect. Her boat had an issue with the engine, but Ian handled it perfectly. It was a great teaching situation which we think helped the students learn even more about real sailing and to win the final race!
My son had an amazing experience. The organization of the whole trip was outstanding. The itinerary and all the activities that kept the youth engage was spectacular. The blogs entries were a treat. The happiness on the students faces was contagious. My son’s blog post was specially heart warming to see the deep impact of the experience was having on him. As he describe the aw he felt with the beauty of night sky beauty we could see that this experience will be forever with him.
