Welcome to the Adams County Sheriff's Department page. For EMERGENCIES or to report a crime in progress DIAL 911. For non-emergencies please call our county wide communications center at 260-724-5345.
While most people in America recognize the sheriff as the chief law enforcement for the county, they would be surprised to know that the office of sheriff has a proud history that spans well over a thousand years, from the early Middle Ages to the present time.
In Indiana, the Sheriff and his Deputies are sworn police officers with the powers to make arrest, perform criminal investigations, conduct traffic enforcement, and investigate vehicle crashes. Other duties include the custody, care and transport of prisoners in the County Jail, and the safety and security of our courts. The Sheriff is also responsible for the serving of court papers and civil process and for the collection of unpaid taxes, as well as the selling of foreclosed homes and has a pivotal role in disaster preparedness.
If you have an emergency or need to report a crime, please DO NOT use our Facebook page.
