Addison Historical Society

Description

The Addison Historical Society dates back to March 7, 1974, when a group of citizens saw the need to collect and preserve historical artifacts and materials, which would establish or illustrate the history of the area. The purpose of the organization, which began with 31 charter members, is to bring together those people interested in history, especially in the history of Addison, and is dedicated to promoting the understanding of that history.

The group meets four times a year, on the third Thursday of March, April, September, and October, at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall. There is an annual field trip for members, as well as a potluck dinner held in late Fall. Members sponsor seasonal craft workshops for children and help with tours of the buildings during school field trips and village events.

Over the years, the group has conducted garage sales, craft and cookie sales, raffles, and other fundraisers, to support the museum and the preservation of the Century House.

"The Addison Historical Museum includes the 1892 Balzer House with local history exhibits, the restored 1893 Century House which was once the home of Lutheran school teachers, and the 1932 Coach House which depicts Addison's farming history."

Fun local history museum complex featuring a restored 1893 home called the Century House which was once the home of Lutheran school teachers and depicts home life from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the 1892 Balzer House with interesting local history displays and a Depression era Coach House featuring exhibits of the village's farming and business history. We had a personalized tour from the museum manager who was extremely knowledgeable and interesting. The only drawback is the limited public viewing hours of only two afternoons each week. Visitors to this area should definitely try to fit a stop here into their agenda.
Always love to come and enjoy this place. Sadly close now due to Covid
First time visitor. Very informative.
Because I LOVE History
A museum unlike any other. I really liked the teachers' house. This is the house as they lived for several generations. The furniture is not part of the house itself, but belongs to the times and the community. I recommend everyone to come, the guide is really nice and pleasant and explains the history of the city in an understandable way.
