Adventist Health Medical Group originally began in the Walla Walla Valley as Blue Mountain Medical Group, founded on the Walla Walla General Hospital campus. During the 1990s, the medical group went through a couple of ownership changes. In 2007 the physician-owned medical group approached WWGH about purchasing the 11-physician and 6-nurse practitioner group.
The change in ownership of the group in 2008 allowed the physicians to focus on what they do best—caring for patients—while allowing the hospital to manage the day-to-day business operations. An added benefit is that the new physician practice structure creates an environment that enhances physician recruitment efforts—three new internal medicine physicians joined the team within the first six months of 2009 and additional physicians and specialists have joined the team since then.
Currently there are plans underway to expand Adventist Health Medical Group to expand to additional clinic locations beginning in 2013.
