After-School All-Stars (ASAS) Puget Sound provides comprehensive after-school programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and life.
ASAS Puget Sound’s vision and programming structure is the first of its kind in the state of Washington. We take a holistic, long-term approach to out-of-school enrichment with a strategic and intentional focus on middle school-aged youth—while also working to close a crucial component of the opportunity gap by serving at disproportionately under-resourced schools. We give our students a safe-haven during the “danger zone” hours of 3pm-6pm to help them gain the self-esteem and resilience necessary to avoid risky behavior that compromises their future economic stability.
Research shows that a combination of academics, enrichment activities, and healthy lifestyles improves student achievement significantly more than academics alone. To best equip our students for success, we structure our programs around three pillars: (1) Academics—which provides homework help and enhances school-day learning; (2) Enrichment—which offers experiential opportunities to develop extracurricular talents and build social/emotional skills; and (3) Health and Fitness—which focuses on structured physical and nutrition activities that promote wellness and leadership. Lastly, we incorporate service learning into all three pillars to teach our kids the value of giving back to their communities.
Our programs run Monday through Thursday from 3:01 to 5:15 PM and are structured around enrollment sessions to incentivize consistent student participation from beginning to end. While all students are welcome to participate, we typically do not allow drop-ins after sessions have begun. Our primary goal is to have a long-term positive impact on our students, which requires us to cultivate a level of commitment and discipline on their end.

Our vision is for our All-Stars to be safe and healthy, graduate high school and pursue higher learning, find careers they love, and give back to their communities. With a special focus on middle schoolers, we fuel our student’s individual passions by tailoring program activities to align with their interests—cultivating a holistic and supportive after-school environment.
