I wouldn't even give this place one star after the dinner that I had tonight. This used to be one of my favorite places to eat. I order takeout tonight and literally threw it away. Not to mention they mess up my take-out order every single time I go in there. I understand sometimes that there are new people taking orders and they always make it right but the food has just gone downhill from what I remember. I'm sad to say that I will never walk into Agaves Mexican Grill again.
Truly as good as it gets! Service, food and atmosphere are always on point, that's why it's my family's favorite place. I enjoy myself every time, whether it's a "family" dinner or night out with friends for drinks. They have the best margaritas, my favorites are the cucumber or jalapeño. Yum yum, they always get an A+ in my book!
I've been going here a lot lately. Everything is good. Tacos are my favorite. Large beer was 34 oz. Large Margarita is big enough for 3 people. They had a mariachi band playing last Friday, which was Awesome! Good vibes.
Sadly, this restaurant is not what is use to be. The warm authentic Mexican welcoming has come and gone, and replaced with younger unattending hostess that rather text than address the guests. Unfortunately, the staff is not the only aspect of the restaurant that is failing. The lack of attention to detail has left many seats torn and frames filled with dust. The food is as follows, lacks the energetic enthusiasm of authentic Mexican food. The table ordered a table side guacamole appetizer. However, there was nothing table side about as it was prepared in the back and brought out to the table. We assumed from the refrigerator taste that the restaurant was trying to get rid of the week old guacamole. Oh, it doesn't end there! The entrees were cold and the tortillas corn and flour had a unique chemical taste. Luckily my wife and I had a $10 voucher which was given to us from another horrible occasion. I will end by saying that this will be our last visit to Agaves as I can go down the street to Taco Bell and receive better service and food for my buck!
Apparently no one has ever had decent Mexican food in Rhode Island. Portions are small and food is overpriced. I had mixed enchiladas. I base all Mexican restaurants off this simple meal. It was the smallest plate of food I have ever received, and it was very bland. We also ordered the chicken nachos which was also lacking chips which is odd since they give them to you for free. The salsa is also flavorless. Any decent competition nearby would put this place out of business. Service was mostly good until we did not sign up for the rewards card and when asked why we simply said we don't think we will be coming back. Then he disappeared for the remainder of our night and we asked someone else to take our credit card.
I've gone here once and had a great experience but last night was something else. Me and my boyfriend were in no rush to eat but our appetizer, the table side guac was forgotten about and eventually came out with our food and I got the wrong entree and got charged for the one I originally ordered. They need some new cook staff
When the food arrives before your glass of water....that isn't a good sign. Ordered the shrimp diablo, the shrimp was very overcooked and definitely frozeb. Server was very nice but kinda slow, probably not her fault though, the table next to me wouldn't stop bugging her.
We've been to Agaves a number of times. Always fresh, beautifully prepared and presented. EXCELLENT draft beers! Service was very much a cut above the "cookie cutter" restaurants. If you like Mexican/Texican, this is an excellent choice.
Highly disappointed and disgusted during our visit on 04012016. After we were seated, it took 20 min before we were acknowledged... No one said hello or we'll be with you in a few minutes, no one came to ask what we wanted for drinks, and no one came with chips, etc. Eventually, the waitress that had been to the table across from us 7 times or more, FINALLY brings us chips and asks for our drink and food order. She never gives us her name. SHE NEVER ONCE APOLOGIZED FOR THE WAIT. When we placed our order, we had asked for cheese dip. Well, we waited 10 min and it never came in addition to the only drink we ordered so my husband flagged her down and she had forgotten... NO APOLOGY FOR THAT EITHER... She finally brings the drink and cheese dip.. THE CHEESE DIP WAS COLD AND IT WAS WATERED DOWN CHEESE SO MUCH THAT IT RAN OFF THE CHIP EVEN WHEN IT WAS COLD!! The waitress never came back so my husband stopped another waitress and asked for HOT DIP AND NEW CHIPS. After we asked for the new, fresh, AND hot items, our food arrived so we didn't even get to eat our appetizer, yet they still charged us for it. Then our waitress shows back up, didn't ask if our order was right after she seen they brought it out which the order was wrong!! And she asks my husband if he wants a refill FINALLY THE FIRST RIGHT THING SHE'S DONE ALL NIGHT!! Well, that was short lived... he never got his cup back.. a manager stopped by our table and asked if we were missing a drink and my husband told her what happened so I guess she flagged down our waitress to bring his drink back because 5 min later he finally had something to drink. My husband went and talked to the manager to tell her all that had happened and she advised she would be over to talk to us in a few minutes... that never happened but that same manager went to the table across from us and apologized so I'm pretty certain she was addressing the wrong party... TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! We use to frequent Agaves twice monthly, but we will NEVER return!!
Slowest. Service. Ever. Waited to order drinks, waited to order food, waited a long time for the food to arrive, waited for the check, and waited even longer for them to return with our credit card. The food is good however, if you don't mind waiting for it.
