Beautiful museum, I love seeing the cultural history of such strong people. The nature walk outside is so peaceful, the greenery is just so refreshing to look at. You can truly feel the magic in that walk. They also have a cute gift show area where you can buy artwork and very cute authentic things. You are not allowed to record or take pictures inside, please respect their wishes. There are multiple signs posted up stating this as well.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, which translates to "A place to learn, a place to remember." It encapsulates the museum's mission of education and remembrance, serving as a space where visitors can deepen their knowledge and appreciation of the Seminole Tribe's heritage. Located on the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation in Florida, this museum is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Upon entering the museum, I was immediately struck by the beautifully designed architecture, which seamlessly blended with the natural surroundings. The exhibits inside were thoughtfully curated, offering a comprehensive glimpse into the history, traditions, and contemporary life of the Seminole Tribe. One of the highlights of my visit was the outdoor boardwalk trail, which winds through the cypress dome and allows visitors to explore the natural environment. The staff at the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum were friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing their culture and history. They were readily available to answer questions and provide further context, enhancing the overall experience. The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum is a gem that beautifully showcases the vibrant history and culture of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Whether you have a deep interest in indigenous cultures or simply want to learn something new, this museum offers an enriching experience that is both educational and inspiring. Furthermore, I was delighted to discover that the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum boasts an impressive gift shop, offering a wide array of distinctive gifts and travel mementos. From exquisite jewelry pieces to adorable animal figurines and intricately crafted dream catchers, the gift shop truly captivated my attention. It serves as an excellent opportunity to not only find a special keepsake but also contribute to supporting this local business and the invaluable work of the museum. Price for entry: $10.00
I am very glad that we went to this museum. It is very well done. The Seminole Tribe in Florida has put a lot of effort to make this museum available to the public. It covers the history and lifestyle of the Seminoles.
Beautiful displays, gifts, hope, and boardwalk. I came with a friend who used a wheelchair and we were driven to the entrance and picked up and driven to the car when we left.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
I am a Native Hawaiian and learning of cultures like ours, who had the same thing done to them, but remained strong and true to our beliefs is such a comfort. The boardwalk is so peaceful and you have to see it.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Glad we made the drive out. Interesting museum though when we went late Feb there was little wildlife to see/hear on the boardwalk walk which was disappointing as was the fact that only a couple people were demonstrating crafts and not interested in engaging in conversation. Not sure why the shop is selling cheap stuff rather than actual baskets etc made locally.
Truly a special place and a wonderful learning experience about the Seminole peoples. There is an initial orientation in a small theater followed by tableaus and information plus a small area where you can listen to some of the Seminole Legends. After you finish the interior museum which includes a library you then may take a walk around a mile long raised wooden trail and see the real fishing camp of one of the Seminoles, a village and more with places to rest and bathrooms along the way. Highly recommended
Absolutely fantastic! It was a wonderful presentation, beautiful artwork and gift shop. I will be going back soon.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$6–10
Small Seminole History museum. A worthwhile trip for those interested in native South Florida history Seminole War, Battle of Pine Island Ridge, Sam Jones, etc. Art work from Jimmy John Osceola is a beautiful new addition. Be sure to wear mosquito repellent if trekking out to the boardwalk. Video might need an updated 18 years old, one screen not working.
