BEWARE!!!! I am writing this post to create awareness about the Apple Care+ theft and loss coverage. More specifically - about the fine print in relation to theft incidents. Just to make things clear Apple does not take ownership of any theft claims and is instead delegating this to a third party named AIG Insurance. This cowboy insurance company is said to cover theft incidents, but they unfortunately include two abusive clauses: 1. Find My functionality is not enabled on the Covered Equipment throughout the Coverage Period including at the time of the Theft or Loss. and 2. our Covered Equipment must remain associated with Your Apple ID, throughout the Theft or Loss claims process. The second clause is the key - what it entails is that if anyone snatches your phone from your hand and manages to remove it from “Find my”, you will not be covered. To give you a few examples of how this might happen: 1. The thieves might follow you and see when you type in your passwords 2. You can be coerced to give your password. That being said, if you want to cover ALL possible situations that involve theft or loss I suggest you find another company rather than signing up for Apple Care. This company will do anything to avoid covering your claims. There are multiple companies out there that offer more sensible insurance packages that are also cheaper!! It is a shame that Apple is avoiding any responsibility when it comes to theft claims and that it promotes such an abusive company on its own website!
I had an internship there and during those five months, being in that company inside and out is one of the best experiences of my life. The company stuff is incredible and I also got the opportunity to meet the CEO Brian himself and witness how good and equal he treated his employees. Their insurance services are jus unbelievably crazy, I love them.
