The Albany Jazz Big Band is a class at the Albany Adult School for intermediate instrumentalists and vocalists. Music Director:Bob Levenson; Vocal Director, Richard Kalman
Since 2007, the Albany Jazz Band has been led by musical director and conductor, Robert Levenson, a noted bay area saxophonist and veteran member of the band. The vocal director of the band is Richard Kalman and the band librarian is Bernard Knapp. Under the leadership and cooperation of these three musicians, the band has improved by leaps and bounds and the results have been reflected in the many fine appearances the band has enjoyed in recent years at prestigious venues like Anna's Jazz Island, the Dance Palace of Marin, and at several ballroom dance halls like the Veteran's Center in Downtown Oakland. The band draws its members from many fine instrumetalists and vocalists who live and work in the east bay and meet once a week to play classic and modern big band jazz.
