A Brief History of Albion Lodge #1006 B.P.O.E.
In 1868 in New York City a group of thespians calling themselves The Jolly Corks, formed what was later to become The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. On February 12, 1871 the Grand Lodge was organized and became New York Lodge #1.
Thirty-five years later, Albion Lodge #1006 was born. Their first meeting was held January 29, 1906. There were 43 charter members. Current membership stands at approximately 320.
Albion Lodge currently resides in their fifth home at 428 West State Street, Albion, NY. This facility has undergone extensive remodeling and is a credit to the membership as well as Elkdom.
Over the past 100+ years, Albion Lodge has rigorously adhered to the mandates and programs of the Grand Lodge as well as adding programs of their own. The Cardinal Principles of The Order: Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity always prevail.
Albion Lodge also supports the New York State Elk's Association's Major Project, cerebral palsy, as well as many other charities: Scholarships, Youth Activities, Drug Awareness, Veteran and Community Affairs to name a few.
The social aspect of the Lodge should not be overlooked. Many activities throughout the year, including family and friends, only serve to strengthen the fraternal bond as well as creating an atmosphere of inclusiveness.
As one might imagine, an organization that has lasted over 100 years, has not been without problems. However, the Fraternal tie that binds all Elks has prevailed over any adversity.
Albion Elks Lodge, #1006 B.P.O.E., will continue to address the challenges of the future with vigor, dignity, and commitment.
To inculcate the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellowship; to perpetuate itself as a fraternal organization, and to provide for its government, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America will serve the people and communities through benevolent programs, demonstrating that Elks Care, Elks Share.
