Description

Amber Lantern Restaurant is a fine dining establishment located on the second floor of Top Rack Marina. It overlooks the Elizabeth River with panoramic sunset views from our restaurant, banquet facility, and outdoor patios.

Our Chef is a Master Culinary Chef from Sardinia, Italy. He prepares a wide array of dishes with a Mediterranean flare, including filet mignon, macadamia encrusted mahi mahi, swordfish, crabcakes, and our house favorite, lobster tortellini.

This is a great restaurant in Chesapeake located off the beaten path in a good way on the second floor of a corporate building next to a marina and boat storage. The door is around the side and we took the elevator up; the navigated walk added to the story for our anniversary. Our awesome server Danielle was sweet, intuitive, and on point throughout our entire meal. Food came out fast and fresh at a fairly busy hour. Great selection of beer, wine, and signature drinks. The fried oysters were absolutely delicious; sweet, salty, perfect crisp and super tender interior bite with a balsamic reduction and thin dill pickle slices. Rack of lamb with mango chutney was spot on. I have nothing negative to say about our experience. Great job to everyone at the Amber Lantern! Keep up the great work. Did I mention Danielle was awesome? I did and she was.
As a first time patron I was pleasantly surprised. I hosted a celebration dinner party for 13 people. I received great planning support and customer service. Amber’s Lantern has a lovely ambiance. Watching the sunset over the water boasted relaxing and romantic vibes. Everyone’s in my party raved about how delicious their food tasted, no one has any complaints. I would recommend Amber’s Lantern for a nice date night, adult dinner party or small celebration. This is not a place to host small children in my opinion because of the prices and atmosphere.
Now with prices that were pretty climbing for this restaurant, fantastic views comfortable atmosphere. You would expect to have minimal issues. Without rambling on the risotto was so extremely salty it was an edible and that tells you that the chef was not tasting it before it went out. The scallops were overdrenched in some plum sauce. And the ravioli was spinach was watery bland and completely unappealing. The Brie cheese appetizer was overly doughy and soggy. The pork chop was dry and flavorless. I can absolutely guarantee but I believe the shrimp was frozen the way it looked and the texture of it. There is no way you can charge these prices and put out this type of food. What I believe in my heart is that for some reason that Chef has lost his passion because you can tell that it used to be there and for some reason it has faded. I'm not saying he doesn't have passion at all. I'm saying it doesn't demonstrate itself on these plates....BUT.... What I will say is the "plating" in itself was pretty. And the wait staff was pleasant. I'm not here to be disrespectful I'm here to tell the truth because I love food I love eating out and I love a fabulous cook. No, everyone doesn't have to be a Wolfgang Puck, "but" they can sure have the passion like him
Very pleasant dinner on the outside deck overlooking the water. Celebrating a home purchase and family. The food was superb!! The wait staff was very accommodating. The three of us order separate dishes and shared.Very GOOD! Will come back for certain. Features: It was ok.
This place was lovely! The sunset outside was stunning, even during winter! The lobster bisque has heavenly and paired great with the homemade bread. I also tried the lump crab cake, and I left stuffed! What a great place for fine dining in Chesapeake, especially for date night! Thanks to all the friendly staff who made the experience so memorable! Will definitely be coming back!
I don't think I have one compliant about Amber Lantern. The service was great and fast. The food was great as well. I had the Gnocchi Carbonara pictured. The sauce was think but creamy and full of flavor. The other picture was the Mediterranean Chicken with veggies. Can't wait to go back.Dine in: Yes
Beautiful spot for a sunset dinner! Good cocktail selection - Blue Hawaiian was a good start as it wasn't too boozy. Artichoke and cucumber salad was unique and delicious. Gnocchi carbonara was fantastic, a must-try! Cheesecake and chocolate cake for dessert were awesome as well, chocolate cake was very dense and rich. Service a little slow but was nice to just relax and watch the sun set.
The salad, shrimp appetizer, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, and cake were really good. The steak was not. The steak look good and it was prepared well, but it tasted like a lower quality cut. The sauce could not make up for a lack of beef flavor. Parking: Plenty of parking including handicap. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible sidewalks and elevator on premises.
The restaurant from the outside doesn't like like a restaurant but an office building. You have to walk around to the left side of the building and take the elevator or outside stairs up to the 2nd floor. The view is decent minus the quarry right across the water. Lol Our server's name was Kay and she was fantastic. Very polite and attentive. The ambience is decent but the patron mix is dressy, or shorts and t-shirt. The food is reasonably priced and tasty. We got the calamari appetizer which was delicious but a tad oily. The filet with risota was ok. The risotto was very good and flavorful. The filet was cooked correct but didn't have much flavor, so we put some salt and pepper on it. The drinks mimosa & raspberry spritz were made well and refreshing. Overall I would come back because of the service and the menu items.
Allison was our waitress and she was amazing, very attentive and friendly...next came the salad and the entrée which both were excellent, fried oysters and crab stuffed shrimp...everything was to our liking and we got a great table on New Years Eve, go check em' out!Recommended dishesCrab Stuffed Shrimp, Caesar Salad, Select Fried Oysters Entrée, Lobster BisqueParking spacePlenty of parkingParking optionsFree parking lot
